the ryden might be coned off when you get there on suday as i'll have drooled all over it on thursday. " The Artist's Museum will open on September 19, 2010, at the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA; and October 31, 2010, at MOCA Grand Avenue. This exhibition will represent the diversity and uniqueness of the Los Angeles community, and highlight important works from legendary L.A. artists who remain vital and influential alongside those emerging from renowned local art schools, visionary artists associated with various street cultures and subcultures, and crossover artists connected to performance, music, and film. This special presentation will draw from MOCA's permanent collection, supplemented by key loans from local collectors and artists, featuring over 250 works, including a number of new projects made especially for this occasion. The Artist's Museum spans both of MOCA's downtown Los Angeles buildings. Works at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA will comprise primarily sculpture and installation, and MOCA Grand Avenue will feature painting, photography, and works on paper."

Hm.... Might try and purchase my first Ryden print... I wonder if these sell out instantaneously? You should be able to get one, just be ready. Set up an account at Porterhouse BEFORE the sale. Just go to the site a few minutes before the release and log in. Since they raised the prices a few years ago prints usually sell out in about 10-30 minutes. The "Tree of Life" looks nice, I'm gonna try and get one too.

Since they raised the prices a few years ago prints usually sell out in about 10-30 minutes. For me, it has way more to do with the manner with which they reproduce his pieces now. I just can't get behind a lithograph with all that unnecessary garbage along the bottom. I realize he markets these as posters and not prints, and in doing so can keep them affordable, so I understand the rationale. But if he were to properly reproduce this with an Iris inkjet, and charge double or more, I'd be all over it. Alas, I had been told years ago at this point to not expect any more proper Giclees, as Mark was wary of the prints being too accurate of a reproduction and taking away from the original painting. Sad, because those classic framed canvas Giclees could serve as the perfect middle ground for collectors who don't have a quarter of a million dollars to drop on a painting and who would rather not have a poster. Oh well.

So has anyone (besides me, of course gone for this? I was surprised to see this sell out faster than "Incarnation", but it is really a great image. The quality of these posters is very good, although I would also love to own a canvas giclee as the ones lowpro mentioned or something more special and more collectible, but the framed prints he released in the past years, such as the Tree of Mystery print, were just not nice enough to spend a few 1000 dollars on. So I just keep on collecting the cheap stuff , although rationality (and boyfriend, too) says it is bonkers to spend 500$ on a poster, but with Mark Ryden I am completely on autopilot when a new print/book/thingy-that-will-clutter-my-shelves comes out.

thanks for the pics Sleepboy. I checked out the rest of the pics on your web site too. Very nice!
I too got shipping confirmation on the "Tree of Life". My favorite painting of Mark Ryden is "Creatrix". Back in the day I din't have money for the lith (college student and all) and i have recently seen it online for $2000. Is the quality of the lith worth it? I think this would probably be my only chance to own a large copy of that painting. If anyone owns that lith please let me know your thoughts. thank you.

Not sure if I'll go for it (wallet says no either), as I already got the Rose pin that was for sale 3 years ago. I wish he had chosen another girl from the Blood series, but Rose seems to be everyone's favorite. Also no edition size, and $99 seems a bit steep.
