Better look at one of the new pieces she's working on. Really like the "Oiran" feel to this one.

Amazing, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a pic by Audrey when one of her characters is in side profile, or maybe I’m just so used to seeing the characters in her paintings facing forward all the time. Stunning as always though.

Im really curious on how archival these paintings are. Since she doesn't gesso the wood, wouldn't the wood absorb the paint through out the years. Has anyone with an Audrey or Amy Sol for 5+ years notice anything yet?

Has anyone with an Audrey or Amy Sol for 5+ years notice anything yet? I doubt she paints directly onto raw wood. I imagine (hope) that the wood board is first sealed with a clear coat of something before the paint is applied.

the boards are coated with acrylic gel medium before she paints and then with varnish after she's finished. i have an original from 2005 that still looks the same as the day i got it.

In her own words: "Anyways, it’s plywood, and the patterns and grains didn’t look very smooth and pretty when purchased, but i took them home, and cut the edges round, and sanded the surface down real hard with my electric circular sanding tool (which i love and adore) and VOILA! They look absolutely silky beautiful now. i must say, this is one of my favorite parts in the process: sanding the wood down so fine, so smooth. i love running my fingers down the surface. So then, I need to plan what to draw. I draw directly on with pencil. I usually don’t do sketches or transfer an already drawn image and this is why the drawing process sometime takes the longest time (or at least it feels like it) and most of my energy. I do lots of rough drawing on there, lots of erasing, lots of sanding down to clear out the un-erasable pencil marks. Sometimes this takes all day or two or three. After the complete drawing, I seal the wood and pencil with acrylic gel medium. This makes the wood surface paintable. I then use oil paint. thin layers and washes at first. I like to leave the wood grains and patterns divisible and translucent, the concentration on her face and eyes, lips, expression, then embellish her with decorative patterns and colors. The piece is complete once I coat a couple layers of polyurethane, which is wood furniture gloss/sealer."

Miss Audrey has really mastered the laser cut/engraving. Mini Masterpiece!! Info below from Miss Audrey's blogrecently did: a portrait b-day gift for my friend, Lauren Noble. (about 6inches tall. laser cut and engraved.) painting the likeness of someone is difficult.

Fun and random discovery last week. My wife and I went to dinner at Sushi Isshin in Westwood. As soon as we entered the restaurant I noticed two Audrey prints hanging in the back of the restaurant. Turns out Audrey used to waitress there when she was in art school.

I remember reading that it would take 4-6 weeks to send out the prints. I assume if it is a framed one it will lean more towards the 6 week side.
Oh and no I have not received one yet.

got my shipping notice! can't wait to see this in the flesh, my first Kawasaki.... hmmm, i haven't received my notice yet. The shipping notice doesn't say it's from Audrey Kawasaki, instead it comes from Leah Whitaker (leah@staticmedium.com) At least that's what made me think I hadn't received notice....

Does anyone know the names of the prints? I really like both of them. Seems like they are going to be hard to track down.

^So glad that I had some spare change for these... some of the people were "on the fence" and would've regretted not purchasing them THERE.
