I would love to see what he would create as a totally original expression of himself in the future. I think there's plenty of that in his newest show at Roq La Rue... it just happens that the stuff we've been pointing out is all character references because we find the parallels interesting. Look at The Arrival, or The Gift, or Welcome to the Great Below, Checkpoint 49, Drawn, etc.

Beautiful pieces! The composition of the first one is going to take a while to digest. The guy on his tiptoes (reaching for something in the sky?) is really great. Love it! Thanks for sharing Kirsten.
Your jaw is going to drop in person Sleepboy.

I saw a video recently (can't remember where) but he was in the studio and actually explaining his process....and I still don't think I understand it. But it's brilliant.
How awesome to live in a time where there is so much errant technology and materials floating around, and to find these people who grab hold of them and bend them to suit a completely new purpose!? It's like photographers who do all their manipulation in the darkroom....even when they explain it, it still looks like some kind of sorcery to me.
Amazing.

It's farther back in the Berens thread... his interviews with Kirsten: Part One and Part Two.

I saw his work in person for the first time at Art Basel and was amazed by the detail.
I'm glad there are some smaller pieces... I don't remember what his prices were before but these don't seem too out of line with previous prices. He was never cheap, his work is in high demand.

The new piece on the front of Chris' website is simply amazing! Let the debate begin anew regarding whether it's collage through mechanical means or through sheer genius. All I know for sure is that it's beautiful to behold and wander through each and every piece. www.chrisberens.com/

BTW-that new painting is on the larger size...10' x 6'. I found a wall in my house it would fit on and the realized it wouldn't make it up the stairs.

A very belated thankyou Amanda for the fantastic interview. I am awaiting my print of "The Kiss" to come back from the framers and am very excited to get it hung so I can look at it every day. Now if only we could have some more economically priced prints of Chris' works for those of us who will never be able to afford an original!

Wow, you've been here for a year and a half and this is your first comment? The strong, silent type, I suppose.
