I like his stuff as well. I first saw his stuff on the walls of a boba cafe in west LA on sawtelle street and looked him up, this was like 4-5 years ago. I think he must have known the owners because the whole place was decorated by him. It's now closed down... I believe this is his blog.Do you have pic of your commission?

those are great paintings. i love hem's work, but haven't got around to buying anything of his yet. i love his really dramatic pieces where the characters seem to be jumping off the wall at you. i like how how he does the noses!

benvan,I really like this artist . I especially like the 3rd one down, it has a lot of movement to to piece and the way he has followed the form with his brushstrokes in different shades of gray around the figure it makes the figure pop out off the page and is very "gesturie" . I also like in the 2nd and 5th pieces the in way he lightens up the faces and makes it almost appear as a spot light is on some of their faces to draw your eye in to them. Thx for showing them to us

Andrew has a big show coming up at the Roq in February 09. He's working on a very cohesive theme and his work seems to have jumped up a notch.

I think he is talented, . . .but the noses, . . .I've seen too many artists do that separation with the noses, . . .Chris Ryniak, Dave Chung, come to mind, . . .so does Lee Marvin's character from his oscar winning performance in Cat Ballou 1965, . . .or maybe it's my disdain for those nose and glasses props used by comedians in the 20th century, . . .either way, it's a distraction from the finer qualities of his work. just a pet peeve really. his work is good, . . .I'm curious what his new stuff looks like.

Sounds like he will doing a lot more of these matchbox paintings for his upcoming show at Roq La Rue. Framing multiple ones in the same frame like this one here. Always have loved these.

I had seen this video before, but after looking for more information about it I saw that Andrew had done some character design for it. Watching it now its totally noticeable and I'm surprised I hadn't put the two together earlier.

That video was put together by my ridiculously talented buddies, three legged legs. They also did this short Jeff Soto video a while back. You should check it out if you havn't seen it already. Theres great quality versions of both, along with a bunch of other great stuff on their website: threeleggedlegs.com/repertoire/

His matchbook pieces are always my favorite. Hem discusses his new body of work, his recent trip to Asia and more in an interview he did with AM posted here.

New WIP pic. The face looks a little more abstract?

that looks damn fine. esp if it's a work in progress - would love to see the finished piece. almost looks a little brendan monroe-ish with those swirly bits (sorry for the lack of a more technical expression)
