hung, it's not a big deal, i'm not upset or anything.. just weird to me that i still get comparisons to james- i guess i should be flattered, but as someone who considers himself to have his own voice, it's kind of a drag. ah, i see. it was actually more the yellow chalk than your stuff looking like his. guess i should be careful with offhand comments. i think you have very unique stuff.

I've never really understood the comparison, myself. I mean, both Tessar and James reference Asian themes from time to time... but except for that, their work has very little correlation. I think the association began as an easy – but not terribly accurate – way for people to describe Tessar's work when he first appeared on the scene. It's not really fair to Tessar that we as collectors are too lazy to describe his work more imaginatively. He has a distinct voice which is all his own.

When i first found out about you, I thought it did resemble james jean. Mainly from the abstract shapes and washes of white. But now that I see more of your work, I no longer see that resemblance. I still think it's in the same genre. I think commandex is dead on about people first reaction to tessar work when he came to the seen.

Thought I'd post Tessar's beautiful new paintings for the LeBasse Projects group show that officially opens next Saturday, the 21st. (Pardon the reflections.) I love the way these two play off each other... light and dark, warm and cold, earth and sky. You can't see it here, but there's a lot of subtle stippling and minute sparkling elements that make it really easy to get lost in their surfaces. This is just a teaser for some gorgeous work he'll be showing next month at his first solo show. I'm really jealous of those of you with some free wall space, because Tessar's working large...

T's work for his upcoming solo show are fantastic. Tremendous growth in his work from a year ago. I am so much happier watching artists styles develop than watching people crank out the same boring paintings because they know it works commercially.

not that i don't respect and admire james jean, but how is it that because i did a campaign that a million people out there did and are still doing- i get my inspiration credited to james jean? he didn't create the project, (i think he was just chosen to launch it, if that) and just because he got publicity for his drawing, doesn't give him anymore credit than anybody else doing the livestrong chalking campaign, myself included. sorry, just had to say. in case anyone was wondering, i found my chalk in a box a block from my home and was inspired by seeing the fun drawings around it. someone had written, encouragingly, to keep it going. so i did. wow u just found it there?? where did you leave it when you finished?

Tessar has this really great piece at a show called " Happily Never After" in Toronto tomorrow, 6/10. It's painted on a large canvas, which is a bit of a departure for him. I like the depth of the negative space, and the way the fragments are being pulled away into it as if drawn by some outside force. I love the ambiguous, organic way the white fragments integrate... they could be read as disintegration (stuffing coming out) or something benign and beautiful, like flower petals or snow, or memory. The richness of the colors and the abstract layering are really exciting. He'll be handling the sale himself, so get in touch with him if you're interested. "lapinlapin" (rabbitrabbit) 48 x 60 mixed media on canvas

i feel like a loser posting again after... me. but oh well, i just have to tell you guys about a really exciting project i did today. it is a real breakthrough for me as i have never made a four-colour print in my life; nor have i ever printed on wood. it is not anything crazy, but it is definitely a lot of fun.. this is an edition run of nine only. anyway, please come by and check it out for yourself. www.tessarlo.com/project/shop/i'd love to hear what you guys think, and as always, thank you for your support.

Love it when an artist hand makes multiple originals. Outstanding piece, must be incredible in person! May I ask the price.
Thanks for posting!
