Hung - thanks for the heads-up on this cover art. Very nice...will go on my wall with all my Ryden album covers. Les Claypool just used Travis Louie's piece "Candletop Hastings" for something - not sure if it was an album? Walt - below are a couple mp3 tracks from "Neighbor Singing" ... Out Cold-mp3 June Gloom-mp3The most intrigueing adjunct to the Josh Keyes cover art for this album, is Brad Laner's love for modern architechture. He just restored a 1964 Eichler by himself. He gets to wake up in this modernist masterpiece every day! (note: thats my dream in the furniture thread!) Brad in his Eichler atrium.... jIm

In case it's not common knowledge, as it wasn't to me, and there are folks out there interested, Josh is scheduled for January 2010 at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Shoot him an email now to get on the list, even though I suspect we're all already too late. Still worth a shot.

Here's one of the sketches of ideas he's working on for the OKOK gallery show coming up. Also a nice little interview here.

Dunno if that means I'm on the list. Wow! Really? Could you indulge me with how you were privy to that info so early on? Also, by "early on in the year" when exactly do you mean? I imagine it was from the Keyes message board, but damn...Here I was thinking I caught this super early, as it's not on Keyes or Levine's website. But it seems everyone I mentioned it to was already aware. Oh well. There goes another opportunity. And thanks for the post sleepboy....Those sketches look AMAZING!!! Is that a bear ridding the Orca?!?! So cool!! I thought I had read something - and was worried - about Josh making some drastic shift in style for the works for this show, and am glad to see these ideas. I love everything about his current creative world and have no problem if he keeps riffing on the similar themes for a while loner. I mean, to put that his approach is original is a serious understatement. There's plenty of room for experimentation, if you ask me.

I think Josh's website used to list his shows out through 2009 (The Levine show was originally scheduled for 2009 but got pushed out). He then started only listing his next upcoming show on his site. The Levine website also had the 2009 show listed on their site at one point.
I touched base with the gallery in April about Josh and got an e-mail back that I was added to the list.

yeah. sorta sucks that last year (i'm guessing October.. unless someone here has seen it before that) he listed all the shows up to the levine show all at once. wonder if all the top people from the lists are on top of all the lists. never did ask to be put on the levine list (regret that now) i just emailed all the galleries except levine in october last year up to the OKOK show... oh well.

interesting how all of the sudden 2 Keyes OG's come popping up on the secondary market and all the sudden they are scooped like.....blink of an eye style.....looks like "Tree of Knowledge" went for I am guessing 3x what retail was, and I could only wager a guess what "Watcher #3" went for. Does anyone have any inside scoop? What do you think the paintings are worth? Kind of odd that a gallery owner had it, then sold it. Like someone said, "its tough for the little guys with the economy"

Indeed, an epic score of the most iconic Keyes piece to date. Congrats! I gotta hand it to the seller too for being a standup guy. When I spotted it in the completed listing, I immediately sent over an offer of significantly more. But he stayed true to the initial offer he accepted, as I would've hoped he'd do if I were the buyer. Cheers to you for being in the right place at the right time. I wanna get lucky with a flipped eBay Keyes piece. I'll pay the flipping prices.

He's already thinking about his future shows.
"I am already gathering ideas for the Sprout show in late May of 2009 with the Limited Addiction Gallery, or as it will soon shed it's skin and become the David B Smith Gallery. I am incubating concepts for the next show. One hint, I have always been intrigued with West African Boli Fetishes, those objects blow my mind."

I really love his work with beast and stone. So all the paintings with the statues and animals really move me. Paintings like 'Creeping Hours 2', 'Swamp Angel' and the magnificent 'Tic Toc'. It is this complete narrative within such a small confined place, and yet I can 'feel' movement, I can 'smell' the water. I can 'sense' the shark's intention. Whether you hear long diatribes about man's inate compulsion to control nature, or whether you feel this will simply become some future memory for mankind, it is evident that you gain so much from really looking into his work. I love his colours and his sense of grace and movement. I regret not moving faster to purchase his 'THUNDER' og from Dave in Denver and I hope that more print runs will be introduced so his fans can experience it within their home. I would love for him to do a mini print set with a chase, as it was with Luke and Stella. Never mind the Bollo*ks Smell the water!!!. lolol I love these arty types! xxx

I don't think there is a nicer guy out there who really listens to his fans. Josh gets my respect all day long.
