i came across tom french's work recently and was pretty amazed by it. he works primarily in charcoal, and the detail he creates blew me away. urban angel have some of his work available now. i'm really tempted by one of these cowboy themed pieces at the moment. pretty large and pretty affordable. www.urbanangel.com/department/tom_french/thought that some people here might enjoy his work. from the urban angel website... Tom French is a UK based contemporary image-maker, whose recent pieces are an exciting and interesting fusion of ‘traditional fine art’ and ‘urban’ techniques.
Born in 1982, and raised in the North East of England, he studied at the Newcastle school of Art & Design before going on to achieve a First Class Honours in Graphic Design from the Sheffield Institute of Art and Design.
He has since been pursuing his painting and illustration practice, drawing on his conceptual design experience and experimenting with stencil, spray paint & collage work. Now we can see a merging of these techniques, with striking results. His 2009 pieces show figurative charcoal characters, suspended in motion over stencilled backgrounds; they are classic and contemporary, dark and beautiful, the mixture of textures hinting at underlying stories and adding depth to each piece.

Yeah, I have the falling girl from that show and another one of a falling fella from some time previous. Can't remember when.
Embarrassingly, the falling girl has been leaning against a bookshelf here in my computer room since purchase but I'm definitely going to hang it in the next couple of days. Just need to find some strong hooks.

I still admire this guy's work... but... he remain to be one of the few people I've come across on flickr who simply did not reply to email.
killed it for me.
I'm sure everyone here has had to endure similar experiences... and kept on.. for me it irretrievably sours the collector / artist relationship.

i like this series ant - first got into his work via pieces like this. i'm sure those prints look pretty nice.
dotdot - i must admit, i never check my flickr mail much... must be an oversight on his part. i'll pm you his email address. maybe you can try that way to get in touch.
