did you get anything other than the standard "it will happen if and when it happens, there is plenty of ther exciting stuff happening now" response? Ha. Doesn't surprise me one bit. I've considered a Batman-esque operation to hire a Colombian drug smuggling pilot drop me right over Riverside, swoop in and snag the original test figure from Jeff's apartment, and be extracted via the floating CIA/Dark Knight/SkyHook parachute method. That would be cool. Sadly, I doubt this project will ever happen...even though I haven't lost hope yet. Were there whisperings that it might've actually been released this year? Did he display the original? And I must say, Irina, you scored some AMAZING oldschool drawings. I'm so jealous of that OG Walker rendering from 2004!! And that 'Floating in the Garden' concept sketch ain't too shabby either. Good stuff!

Thank you, I'm super happy, though the credit mostly goes to the boardie who was nice enough to pick it all up for me. (although I still wish I was there in person because I'd have loved another one like floating in the harden)

It'll be along time before we ever see the Walker toy released, if ever. Basically, the lowdown that Jeff gave me was that there was a lot of stuff that happened with the company he signed on with to create the toy. I inquired whether he has considered taking the project to another company and he stated that it would happen with the original company or never happen at all.

i went to the superhero show, and i gotta be honest- as much as i love seeing batman ears and funny drawings of ironic/nostalgic superheroes, it can get a bit gimmicky. Thanks Tessar, I appreciate your thoughts. You pretty much nailed it. I think themed shows can get gimmicky sometimes. A few years ago I told myself to avoid themed shows- no more painting on a skate deck, no more painting on a vinyl toy, no more following a distinct theme. I feel that I have enough ideas in my head that I don't need to reinterpret someone else's ideas. However, I think they're a great way for the younger artist starting out to get some notice. The few theme shows I say yes to are pretty open, and the curators know that by letting the artists do their own thing they'll be getting better work. Jamie O'Shea's "Beast Within", Scion's "Beautiful Worlds"and Mark Murphy's "Green" are all good examples of wide open themes and had some great art. I hesitated to do the Darth Vader helmet show, but c'mon, it's Darth Vader. With the Superhero show, the curator Mark Murphy said to interpret the theme in our own way. If he had of assigned us superheroes or something like that, I would have declined to participate. Mark's a wise one. My painting was done in a night with no preliminary drawing. I was thinking about what makes a superhero a superhero, but also just letting things happen. I'm very much in an experimental phase right now. As far as the Walker... it is based on artwork I did five years ago, so it doesn't excite me as it once did, though I would still love to see it finished. I look back at the heyday of Critterbox- the Biskup helper, the Baseman toys, the Dave Cooper stuff, they really got it right with those. I have been less inspired by the vinyl toy scene the last few years, and have less desire to make toys. I think as my work has been evolving away from character based works it's harder to visualize them as vinyl toys. For example my superhero piece- how could that be turned into vinyl without it losing something? I was approached by many vinyl toy makers this weekend at the Comicon and most asked if I was interested in revisiting past characters. I told them no, I only want to move forward. I do have some ideas, but as always, painting is my priority. Anyways, I would say there is a 50% chance that the Walker will be made eventually. Email Conor at Critterbox for more info.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It's from this year, it was for a show at Project 4 Gallery in Washington D.C. www.project4gallery.com/exhibitions/08/sublimelandscape/images/index.html"Mickey's Tree House" 20X24 Acrylic on canvas. Not that it needed any enhancement, I think the frame sets it off nicely. I actually consulted Jeff about the framing it and had it done exactly the way he suggested. I see something new every time I look at it.

I actually liked that piece a bit more. Just think the bat wings worked better than the elephant nose, even tho it was simpler and there were some stronger elements to this piece. An image is posted in this thread a couple pages back, I believe. But this piece was neat too. Good stuff! And yeah, it is interesting to see a Soto framed...even if it is a fairly basic molding. Just looks kinda funny...but probably only because I've never seen a Soto framed. Was it purchased framed or did you add that?

Here's the piece for sale called "California Dreaming." Painted in 2007. Originally sold at the Leonard Street Gallery. 18 x 24" This will be interesting. Estimate is 2000-3000 pounds. I wonder what it sold for originally. I guess he is considered "urban" although not usually associated with street artists. Also some Ian Francis and Parla among the usual cast of characters.
