Saw these on supertouch from Basel. Not sure if they are complete paintings. I think they are but things are cut off on purpose?

umm....these are...ummm....fun to look at (sarcasm meter=100). But admittedly, I haven't been too fond of Eric's work for a while, whereas I loved most of the works from the "It Feeds Itself" era. They certainly have the bizarre, what-the-fuck feel to them that is so very Eric White. But I would never in a million years hang one of these on my walls. Oh well. Do other's find these appealing in anyway?

There ya go. Further evidence of that truism that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Any of the other EWhite fans on the board have a comment on these? Sven? Bernie? Tom? Jim?

Beauty is a rare thing like Ornette Coleman usually says. I think that there are other aspects in art which are more important. I think that those are very clever and very unique paintings. Very well done and they are everything but boring because of those irritating elements like this creepy masks, the invisible persons the people in the paintings are interacting with and the kind he is working with interlaced rooms. Well, and those are also quite poetic from my point of view..

I'm not familiar with his work, but they do say that "the eyes are the window to the soul." I think the fact that the subjects are naked (which is when one should feel most exposed), with the exception of the mask over their faces, while everyone around them is dressed probably has something to do with this idea.

To me, this piece stands out above the rest:

I think they are stunning too. Eric White is very much hit or miss for me, but when he hits, it can be great. The layers of stories, and uncomfortable-ness of the images mixed with the technical proficiency makes them quite beautiful to me. I kind of get the same feeling looking at these that I did watching the movie Happiness, uncomfortable, but couldn't take my eyes off it.

All are excellent but the last two are beautiful.
Bottom one is my favorite, really see a Norman Rockwell influence.

There's a good interview w/ Eric White from not too long ago on Fecal face. I think it gives great insight into his art & current attempt to have a cohesive body of art shown together.
I personally like the first one best of these new paintings, but feel the painting "Unit 9" is the best from this current series of paintings (Infinite interiors).
The painting style itself is amazing as always, but think I might just prefer a bunch of unrelated paintings?

Here is an excerpt:

Arrested Motion (AM): We think that your solo exhibition “LP” is a great concept for a show. You’ve chosen to re-invent album covers as the subject matter. Were the albums you chose special for you aurally, visually, or a combination of both?

Eric White (EW): This series started with a dream that I had where I was standing in a record store flipping through vinyl and came across that iconic Elton John Greatest Hits cover. At first it looked exactly like the real thing, but on closer inspection I realized he had not a very nice persons for eyes and I woke up laughing.

I was working on a European show and having a real creative block and struggling with what to make. I spent a couple days just sitting in the studio not productive at all and it occurred to me that maybe it was time to pursue the concept.

So it started with that piece, and from there it was a range of sources—favorites from my own collection, ones with nostalgic significance, purely aesthetic choices, albums I’m sick of seeing everywhere and wanted to fuck with, suggestions from friends, etc. In fact, Jordin Isip suggested several that I ended up using, and even helped me with a couple concepts. There are a total of 24 works in the show and throughout this projec,t several other ideas have come to me. If this series continues, which I think it will, I plan to tackle some of those I didn’t have time for with this show.

Looks like he's working on something new. And, he was named a fellow in painting from the New York Foundation for the Arts.
