Ooh i love that first piece. Thanks for those links. I feel the ones where he portrays gang colors/imagery are his strongest pieces.

Just want to let the boardees here know about Palladino's current show here in White Walls in San Francisco. Even though most of his works were sold, his paintings seriously needs to be viewed in person to admire before they are hidden in a private collection. He definitely does arduous, meticulous work in these paintings. So if you happen to be in SF this month, it's worthy to stop by at this show. Here's a couple of images from the WW show: Also, he has updated his website, www.dumbstersf.com/ which includes his older works and it's fantastic to see how his work progresses in these years as well as moving away from the familiar mission school style into uncharted territory.

Just got an email from Matthew and wanted to spread the word to these fine fellows here:
RVCA Saturday May 23rd 4-7 Opening Saturday, May 23rd, 4-7 at RVCA (Corner of Haight and Ashbury, San Francisco) Preview of work thats going to be in the Space 1026 show. The work wil only be up for that Saturday and Sunday, so come through.
Otherwise...
Im showing 8 new paintings along with Eric Shaw at Space 1026 in Philadelphia. The opening is June 5th, opening 7-10. Its up until June 25th. Come through and see the new works in person (Im lookin at you New York, the China Town bus is only 10 bucks, make it a day trip, hit the Mutter, get a cheese steak)
--------------
Actually, I've seen the pieces in person as I visited his studio earlier and many of them have the high quality works. He has created the biggest watercolor painting he has done and it is like probably around 48" by 30"!!! His 8 paintings come from those three previous series he has done in the past, yet he's getting better with clever content.
So, go and check them out if you're in Bay Area this Saturday/Sunday for a nice preview before they're sent out to Philly, otherwise NYC/Phlliers/DCers ought to check them out at the Space 1026 in the Cheesesteak City!

Space 1026 has posted the photos: www.flickr.com/photos/space1026/sets/72157619503038812/Here's one of the better photos from Matthew's flickr: a link to his pieces: www.flickr.com/photos/91582847@N00/What do you guys think about his new pieces? Somewhat of a Dali - like work yet in a new style. I think he's doing great in being innovative yet with some disturbing, honest content. For some reason, I do find his pieces to be a mixture of humor and protractive.

Wow, he has such a diverse style. Maybe he'll narrown down a certain style soon when he is done experimenting. I kinda like this piece though.

What I like about Matthew is that he keeps coming up with new concepts, and changes it up every show.

Wanted to share this cropped photo that Palladino sent me earlier for his next show, but please do keep this photo within this forum as he doesn't want to publicize around until the SF show soon this May. Should be an exciting show for M. Palladino!

I have seen images of several of the pieces for his upcoming show and it is going to be a real turning point in his young career. the works..there will be 7 total, all large paintings on paper.. are amazing. I already put a hold on one piece.
I recommend contacting Baer Ridgeway gallery and getting on the preview list. They dont have images to send out yet but they will soon.

No, you won't see more clowns on the other new pieces ;-) I believe that this clown piece was the first piece he created for the show.
I gotta side with parklife about his new works, too, as I've seen a couple of images already and i believe that he has pushed himself to the next unfathomable level. (parklife, did you see the shuttle piece?)
What I love about Palladino's works is that he keeps his pieces get more inscrutable than before. I really can't wait to see new pieces in person soon though!

Here's the press release by Baer Ridgway: Baer Ridgway Exhibitions is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new paintings by Matthew Palladino. Palladino's work consists of the graphic, yet imaginative rendering of images of problematic and controversial social issues like gang violence, racial stereotyping, socio-sexual deviance or even mass cult suicide. Through the distillation and aestheticizing of these images, he removes the context from these issues, and through this removal clarifies them. Confronting these issues head on, simply and without affect or contrivance strips them of their deep cultural stigmas and forces the viewer to reinvent their notions of what these issues are. The pieces lack any clear political motivation, causing the viewer to recontextualize the images' ideological content through the unique lens of their own experience with the images. Eviscerating their political content and beautifying the images themselves with a sharp and crisp graphic style, Palladino attempts to alternately remove and reveal their meaning. It's ultimately his desire to explore the world and reveal its deeper meanings by straddling the line between hidden and exposed, and through this open up our mode of seeing. Palladino believes in the power of painting to show us more deeply what it is we see, and what it is to see. Challenger, 2010, Acrylic ink on paper 37 x 59 inches

Just stumbled upon this raving comment about Palladino's recent show by Alan Bamberger, a well respected art critic: "Seven startlingly superb oversized watercolors by Matthew Palladino, notable not only for the mind-blowing originality and brilliance of their compositions, but also for Palladino's prodigious mastery of a difficult medium. Yo, yo and yo!! Pick of the month, without question-- possibly of the year. Not surprisingly, everything's already sold. See this show before it comes down. And that's an order!" www.artbusiness.com/1open/050810.htmlshow of the year? that's quite a statement with just 7 works in the show!
