thanks for working the magic to post the image. i don't know how to do that.
i imagine it was created in the last 2 months. i've heard of him creating even more elaborate works in this 3-d style. this seems to be more simplistic for what he often does.

Must say I'm not keen. He's been making these 3d pieces for a little while, and is now making the original sculpts himself. I've had a brief preview of the new work and I'm uncertain as to whether I like it or not yet. Again though it seems he's making another big change for the upcoming show...

i was suspicious when i heard about his plans for the show, concerned when i got a progress shot last october, and am officially disturbed after seeing this completed piece. for painters especially, i encourage experimentation in different media. it seems all too easy to get stuck in a rut with a brush and i've come to really appreciate artists that exhibit dexterity in a variety of mediums. but this run in stark contrast to all of the strengths inherent in his signature "flat" style of painting, as well as somehow entirely diminishes his creative prowess and renders nonexistent nearly everything i love about his work. i get the campy, kitschy qualities he might've been going for. but this is just terrible. obviously, just an initial reaction and will reserve final judgement until i see the show in full. maybe i'm missing something or maybe they work better in the planned diptychs. still, i am grateful this is a pet project and hopeful it's a one-off.

i haven't seen other 3-D works from him. but knowing him, i'd guess that this piece is just him having a good time. he likes to cut loose and toss out odd works from time to time. i'm holding judgement on this new body of works until i see the solo show coming up. i bet it's going to be pretty nuts, and completely mind blowing. he likes to push himself to the limit.

Palladino got introduced to sculpture when he did his first sculptural work in his gallery space for fictitious Water McBeer last year. He enjoyed doing it, so he decided to pursue further with sculpture along with paintings. The sculpture he did for the New Image Art Gallery... at first glance, I thought it was just a nice introductory teaser piece for what to come for his new solo show. I can't imagine how he'll distort his 3-D works someday soon since like avery mentioned earlier, he does like to push himself to the limit... Guess we'll have to wait for February to come!

I've seen the full-fledged 3D work..I was skeptical too, but they are for real. I would hold off on judging them til the big show at Ridgeway Gallery next month..the new image piece is not really a fully realized one..just a hint.

i'm anxious to see this new work too. when I first heard about the new direction I was a bit skeptical, but I do agree that it is important for artists to push themselves and do things outside the box. Matt seems to be interested in doing just that based on the rapid progression throughout his young career. from the little I have seen, these new 3D works may exceed my initial expectations. hopefully it will be a successful exercise for him and will advance his regular painting that much more in the future. I guess we will find out as the show is just around the corner

I like his fearless approach. Does what he wants. I would still love one his his large works on paper from his last couple of shows.

A nice preview .gif for his upcoming show next week at Eli Ridgway Gallery... he definitely knows how to out-play us... i feel that buying a diptych set works well rather than just one of the diptych sets. definitely can't wait to see the rest of his new works!

Another piece in the same vein as above. Can't quite figure out what it is though...
