Anyone going to Bergen for the opening? It sounds like two days of fun, including a private gig by Glasser.

(how to display?) ..and as for the books ..(as in ltd edition).....no, they never did get back to me. Received this e-mail earlier today regarding the status of the pop-up book: Thanks so much for your purchase of Tauba Auerbach’s pop-up [2,3]. I'm writing to give you an update on the status of the project, a major undertaking for Printed Matter over the last two years. The good news is we now have advanced copies in the store and they looks great! Two weeks ago we debuted a copy at the New York Art Book Fair and it was very enthusiastically received. While the hope had been to have books available by now, the production has proven even more complicated than we expected, involving paper engineers and plenty of oversight to make sure each folio had the desired look and mobility. Fabrication is just wrapping up in the next weeks and then books will be on their way to New York with an expected arrival date of November 30. At that point we’ll be working hard to get books shipped out to individuals as soon as possible. We’re sorry for the delay and I hope it hasn’t caused too much trouble. We feel hopeful that when the books do arrive they will be beautiful and well worth the wait. If you have opted to pick up the book from the store, please note that the box weighs nearly 25 lbs and you may wish to retrieve it by car. We recommend having the book shipped whenever possible. If you have any questions or for more information please email Shannon@printedmatter.org

yeah I decided to use my airmiles and go for it. Apparently the first night is going to be a very private affair so should be interesting. Her gallerists won't be able to ignore me when I'm sat across the table from them at dinner!!

Put in a good word for me I know a handful of people that had received that same email invite to the "intimate" dinner on Thurs, so hopefully it's actually quaint enough for you to successfully flirt with Mrs. Cooper enough to leverage you name to the top of the list. If necessary, ask the wife for a hall pass for the night even.

Has anyone looked at the work of Italian artist Corrado Cagli (1910-76) and his fold work ? The work is Oil on paper laid on board , so im guessing the technique is different to that of Tauba but the result an interesting comparison.

I love the work of Tauba and am a huge fan , $6000 for something that was only $3500 months ago is crazy to me though ! These pieces havnt even been sent out yet !!

looks like we have another Jacob Kassay in the making. I must say I think everything about Tauba's work is stronger and more appealing than Kassay's.

Then you probably would have thought the price it would have reached if there hadn't been a BIN to be beyond crazy. They set the BIN pretty low.(full disclosure, I purchased one of these at $3.5k). Cool organization BTW. I've been happy to support them in the past. Went to visit Julie Mehretu's studio with them in September. Great experience.

i think it would be a safe bet to say whoever bought the print for 6k has no idea what Paulson Bott Press even is aside from a few words in the auction description

I wouldn't think you would need to engage in any more hype for Tauba but here you go. ...they set the BIN pretty low? Says who? First it was a charity auction and second it's the ICI which has access to an audience a bit different than the norm. Put your print on ebay for 6k and see how slowly it sells. If anything it just exhibits nothing more than the herd mentality, three years ago and her shows didn't even sell out ... you could easily get something more special than this print and nobody here cared, everyone was busy buying dface or shepard fairey. But now, now all of a sudden everyone is trampling all over everybody just for an etching. Wow. I, for one, totally agree with this.

i dont think anyone is trampling dollardaze...
3 years ago i wasn't really aware of her work beyond seeing a few images. since then, i've learned more about her process and the concepts behind the work. it appeals more to me now than some of the other artists i collected in the past. i'm losing interest in the whole surrealism / lowbrow movement with a few exceptions, and i find myself much more drawn to concept these days than anything else. auerbach ticks this box for me in a big way.

I also came into the game late, I first saw her stuff in early fall 2009. when I moved to sweden I was exposed to more nordic art, also found linnea strid and some others through the local culture. I was thrilled to find out about the etchings. I knew my shot at an original fold was very slim, and was over the moon to get in on the first tier thanks to some helpful advice from this board. I don't think that anyone that is getting on board is anybetter than those who knew about her early works. Is it to say that I can't enjoy van gogh since I wasn't there when he was painting? No thankfully art is everywhere and I think many of us know it's a full time job keeping up with it. Just because the rolling stones have been around for decades doesn't mean a 15 year old that has gotten into them and memorized their entire discography that he is any less of a fan. We are all noobs and trendsetters at some point and there is plenty of art for everyone. Can't wait to talk about the show in Bergen.
Afroken-had some meetings come up and a star lecturer in my field is coming on 11/10-11 so no shot in attending opening. Have fun and get your schmoozing suit ready!

I think the comment had much less to do with being "late to the game" (which is perfectly fine - there is no "bad time" to start appreciating an artist's work), and much more to do with the fact that her market is largely driven by overwhelming hype at the moment (and this feverish attempt to somehow "cash in" before it's too late...which, in many ways, it already is).

It is unclear to me why a $6,000 BIN seems, to some, to be over the top for Tauba's etching. The edition was tiered in pricing $2,500 - $3,5000 - $4,5000 - $5,500 (for the last 5, I believe) - with CA state tax and shipping that puts it at $6,000 plus. So, whoever purchased it for 6k pretty much acquired the work for what the last handful sold for. If I had the desire for and the $ for a sold out edition and could acquire it for what Paulson Bott Press sold it for, than I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger at $6,000 BIN. Just my 2 cents.

i agree that $6,000 isn't too much for a work of art. it's big, it's beautiful, and it's from an artist that is in demand. 6K is not all that much. especially if one were to have a very large bank roll to work with.
