Definately alot more im guessing and only a guess at least $35k each.
$2800 for something that was $250 weeks ago is crazy , or maybe just far to cheap to start with !

Just for the sake of clarity, Static 18 and 19 were 245 euros per print, plus 60 euros for S/H. All told, after the foreign cc charge, they were effectively $800 for a set. That said, there are very few things in this world, aside from a riskier street hustle, that can return you 3.5x your money in about 3.5 weeks. But that just reinforces how massively underpriced these were to being with..and how lucky those that got them at cost were.

manipulation? too far too fast? sustainable?
amazingly enough, i'd discount the former two and argue the latter.

Sustainable in the long term I'm sure it is , in the short term I can't see it. Too far to fast and manipulation I would argue!

don't get me wrong. i def think this is too far too fast as well. hell, i could've grabbed a set of two statics barely a year ago for 14k total. and a strong argument could be made for protectionist shilling on the part of her reps or long time supporters too. but it's clear she is the new it girl and the big money missed the boat and wants in at whatever cost. so it's a toss up as to whether these results are legit imo. regardless as to whether this is a temporary spike, this price trend has serious legs.

Lowpro I couldn't agree more that this trend has serious legs it will be very very interesting to see how her career unfolds , and I'm really looking forward in the coming years to see some of her A grade work at auction then I'm sure we see fireworks.

it seems tauba discussions pretty much always revolve around price and speculation. that, imho, is a warning sign in itself. in the near term i'm sure her star will continue to rise though.

Outlier results will always spark discussion and debate. Nothing wrong with that. Her work is conceptually strong and well executed. From series to series she perfects her craft. Her career will be very interesting to watch. It is really refreshing to see such a young artist vary their output so greatly with success. There was quite a stir when deitch closed and rumors of her taking meetings with many top end galleries. So clearly there was strong interest at that point. I don't know Paula Cooper, but I think that type of institution is above manipulating auctions. If anything, I would argue it's a case of collectors making educated bets. One thing I am sure of is that Tauba has definitely transcended forum hype. Now it's in the hands of the powers that be, whoever they are.

Also, there hasn't been any new work to discuss, aside from one or two pieces at major fairs, since The W Axis solo over a year ago. There's enough tumbleweeds blowing around this place, with a dying genre et al, I'm grateful there's at least something to discuss

I for one am thrilled with the newest work, to me Tauba is an extremely critical and analytical artist. It reminds me of very high level academic critique, which is an artform in itself. To truly think outside the box yet build upon so many centuries of previously built knowledge, she's not the first to do folds or pixelation, but how she approached it was with process. If I could ask her one question it woul be who is she excited about picking up where she leaves off? I really think that the fact that we haven't seen much new work comes from strategic art business hype/demand but also her discipline to create quality pieces that match her work/motivations; pop up book and plate distortion editions; both pieces created solely as editions in their own right not a reproduced image but actual new pieces. I can't wait to see the work when it comes to Malmo

I should ammend my above post by acknowledging the seemingly often neglected, as just did myself, body of work from her A Book is Not an X show with McWinnie a few months back. The level of thought and overall attention to detail of the "book" sculptures coupled with the tireless lengths to which she went to design and produce, including putting up over 100k of her own money (I believe that printed matter Fold print to be the reason for releasing and generating investment captival for th project), is mindboggling. This series of works will be looked back on very favorably, especially when people realize how meaningful the project was to Tauba. As I think back, I hadn't been that blown away by something in a while. Brilliant.
