Just back from the opening in Bergen. Incredible to see so many Folds together in one place and there's a whole new series of work being premiered here that's pretty special. I'm on my iPhone so can't post images but have uploaded a selection of photos to my Flickr account. My profile name is Rainbow Dog if someone else can post them to this thread from there? Will post some more tomorrow when we're due a talk from Tauba and a performance by Glasser.

The work is incredible. The new series is entirely made of woven fabric ribbon to create an effect not dissimilar to the 50/50 series. I'll try to capture some pix tonight.

Looks great A. Did you float them? Thinking of going for two separate frames for mine but this may cause me to rethink.

Just back home from a great couple of days in Bergen. A bit more about the books: They are basically RGB cubes laid out as follows: The RGB colour spectrum has 16.7 million colours all captured in these pain stakingly constructed 1,670 page (if I'm not mistaken) books which Tauba said were the hardest things she had ever had to make. They are printed with the edges hand sprayed. They are an edition of only 3. The new woven series is pretty breath taking too. Here are some shots: Finally, Tauba's talk was inspired. She went in to some detail about her journey in pursuit for the truly random (each time ending in beautiful failures like the Statics and Folds that all reveal some kind of order despite her best efforts) and her exploration of the limits of our perceptions as she attempts to imagine in her work the idea of a 4th dimension and a 4th colour spectrum. When she explains it it all makes perfect sense and her eyes light up at the thought of these scientific possibilities that to her are entirely plausible. There were no deep philosophical ramblings in her talk, just logical scientific extrapolations delivered with a lot of warmth and enthusiasm. The only down side is that Norway is sooooo fucking expensive. Everything is 3x the price of London. It's insane.

jesus, those books are enormous.
interesting that she talked about her search for randomness and yet her books and weaved pieces demonstrate such precision. did she mention why she moved in a new direction?
was this a sales event? or was everything pre-sold?

There were no sales at the event. Everyone was just there to support Tauba and enjoy the art. To discuss pricing would have been completely inappropriate.
As for the the question about order and precision. I think the RGB cubes are about exploring the limits of our colour perception. There may be 16.7 million colours but we can only perceive around a million of them. A Tetrachromat can theoretically perceive 100 million colours which begs the question of what those additional 4th colour spectrum colours might look like.
The woven pieces are about exploring continuous intersecting surfaces. In between the woven strips of fabric potentially lies the 4th dimension that she talks about so that the image that you see isn't created by the fabric itself but the spaces between it.
It made me realise that the magic of the Fold paintings isn't when you look at them head on but it's when you look at them at an angle. Head on they simply look like trompe l'oeil but from an angle they stop making logical sense and begin to really challenge your perception of the illusion of 3 dimensions that they capture, which is what I believe Tauba intends with them. So unless you have the opportunity to examine one of these paintings in person it's very hard to appreciate.
Having said that, Tauba's new book is split in to three sections: the first explores the detail of each painting (up close they are anything but realistic due to the spray paint technique), the second shows them head on, and the third section shows them all again from an angle. Worth buying the book if you don't have the opportunity to see the work in person.

sounds like a great way to spend the weekend victor. thanks for the insight. the new weave pieces don't have the same impact as the fold pieces, but it is always hard to judge when viewing work this this vicariously over the internet.
thanks much for the pictures. the books look quite wonderful.

On the distortions, my invoice has a ship date of 12/30/2011. Though, I think I remember from my conversation with them that 2nd week of December was a target.
