pretty interesting to compare stella's 7 year period to auerbach's 2-3 power march. regardless of how insanely quick it's been, i think it was hard to deny it didn't have it's merits and this further cements it all. Though, must be said, comparing anything Auerbach to Stella's work from the late-1950's(especially the magical 1958) through his 1970 retrospective is doing Tauba a real disservice. She is a good artist, comparing her to one of the greatest runs in art history is just not kind. Frank Stella did more to change art history in 1958 than Tauba will likely do in her career. Not her fault, but highlights just how important Stella was. Even though one could argue that his post 1967 work, beginning with the 'Irregular Polygons' was downhill(Donald Judd most definitely argued that, frequently and with force) or, as some would argue all work since 1972 has been lacking, there is a reason why Frank Stella is the youngest artist ever to have a MoMA retrospective and that he is one of only 2 people to ever have two retrospectives at MoMA(I believe the other is Johns).

^ True enough, to compare Auerbach as anything but referential of and inspired by Stella, and even then only in a vague sense, would be silly. While I do think she's actually managed to pave some new ground with various projects, I never intended to insinuate even the slightest parallel in overall significance between the two to the art world at large. Regardless, everything stated above is moot as it appears she doesn't even have a solo. That's what you get for being bored on a day that someone posted something intriguing, albeit unfounded, to a message board. Oh well.

Saw some works of Tauba's at jack Hanley's booth at the LA Art Fair opening last night.
He had the newer photo Dyptich edition and was selling it for $7K. ALso had the Printed Matter SilkScreen for $3.5K.

Were these studies for a larger piece? They just seem a little loose for Tauba and the paper looks a bit abused.
Love the McGee cluster in this auction though!

Nice Tauba but I love the Chris Johanson they have up for sale even more. Some great pieces in this auction including a lovely McGee cluster. Also liking Lot 114 by Gerhard Richter and Lot 164 by Aaron Young.

I still expect the Tauba to double the low estimate even if they do look a little dog eared....
