For those that have wondered exactly how she makes her Fold paintings, here's an insightful passage from the Bergen Kunsthall website.
"Since 2009, Auerbach has created a body of work she calls “fold paintings”. Inasmuch as they obscure the boundaries between two- and three-dimensionality, these paintings can be understood as an analogy that raises the possibility of a concept of four dimensions. In these paintings she twists and folds the canvas, ironing or pressing it such that the folds are embedded in the material. Then the canvas is spread out and spray-painted while it still has its three-dimensional contour. The result – after the paint has dried and the canvas has been stretched – is an almost perfect registration of the previous three-dimensional form of the surface. The surface takes on a trompe l’oeil effect as a convincing reproduction of three-dimensional form on a surface, not unlike traditional mimetic painting – but in this case based on inventiveness rather than painterly virtuosity."

she's openly talked about how the fold paintings are made. it's not a secret.

the image of a fold is nothing new. that's for sure.
in several of your examples above, the works are full on 3d, or bordering on 3d. one of the magical aspects of tauba's fold paintings is that they're absolutely flat. she's created an illusion that's pretty fun to walk up to.
she's not inventing the wheel with this, but those wheels sure are pretty to look at.

Just a heads up that those domestic lucky enough to grab a set of the Static prints, I got mine today. Never received any tracking or anything in the way of a confirmation email at all. Sounds like another friend in the States will have his tomorrow, according to the Fedex tracking he received from them. Clearly hit or miss on the communication level, perhaps relating to how much you contacted them. I almost never did. They appear to be sent directly from NYC, packaged by Griffin which is a very reputable company and shipped Fedex. So to my friends abroad, keep an eye out sometime next week if you haven't heard from them at all. I just opened mine and stopped after getting them out and seeing them all done up in a plastic bag. The corners looked fine so going to just wait to get them into the hands of my mounters.

Well there you go, and that's for pretty poor quality piece. The sky is the limit with this artist.

...and that's for pretty poor quality piece... i don't mean to be rude, and this isn't an insult to anyone here, but i really don't think you get it. i was talking with another forum member, one that also owns tauba originals (disclosure...i have an early letter based painting) and we were both confused why everyone was either questioning, or putting this painting down. one of my thoughts was that it wasn't what everyone is used to seeing...aka, it's not a fold painting. tauba seems to do a series of works and then changes it up a bit. i've seen 3 paintings done in this cmyk spray pattern style. it's an abstract painting and tauba is known as an abstract painter. if she had done a whole show of this style, i'm sure many of you would be calling it the greatest thing since sliced bread. i'm loving that seemingly several members passed on this piece, or had it pulled out from under them, only to see it sell for such a huge amount. a true moment of personal reflection. i think it's a nice little painting. $77K or $8k. it only makes you look bad to say it's a poor quality piece. with an auction sale at this amount, obviously it isn't a "poor quality piece." i wonder if the tauba fans out there are truly interested in the work, or just interested in the fame and dollar signs.

Avert makes a good point. and ouch for those of you that considered this piece and then decided to pass..from a market standpoint.. which is clearly the primary driving force of most here.
