Came across this while browsing, rs.rocketsociety.com/jjean/Looks like an old copy (or test version?) of his website. Good reference for prices on some of his older stuff, I guess.

I'm new to the board & just familiarizing myself with everything, I've a James Jean work (oil on linen w/ rope 36 x 20") that can be seen here: www.jamesjean.com/work/2001/The/Kray/Twins/1.... I had it appraised for 11k have been told that the most I could get for it in this market is 6-7,000. What do you think?

What do you think? this is a difficult piece to value since it is from so early in his career - around the time he was at art school in NYC - and is fairly unique. i like it and it's a nice size too. his current prices for something similarly sized would be above your appraisal but i don't think thats a very good yard stick for this piece (for reasons mentioned above). nice piece. who did the appraisal?

So I've been wondering this for a while now. But does anyone know why his prints are so difficult to find on the secondary market when compared to many other artists that release prints with similar limited quantities?
I've been tracking him a few years now and I don't think I've ever seen prints like Swan, Excavation, Forest, and Rickshaw pop up even once. Tango is on ebay now, and Ballad and Toymaker comes up every now and then, although less and less frequently.

If I had to guess, I'd say that it's because they start off at a high price point and don't have crazy demand, so the people buying them are collecting, rather than flipping. It also doesn't hurt that the edition sizes are pretty low on most of the prints you mentioned.

Thanks, that makes sense. I've been trying to get my hands on Forest, so I guess I'll have to wait it out
