Love the elephant/rhino piece a ton too. But especially love the greyhound work as well.
The man is a true genius. The dexterity in styles, all achieved with such mastery, is unprecedented.

Very exciting to see that advance copy of 'Rebus' (his forthcoming monogram) as well!

Very exciting to see that advance copy of 'Rebus' (his forthcoming monogram) as well! Looking forward to this as well. Should be real nice. Looks thick too! I wonder if JJ would come to your place and personally paint the wall with the purchase of Lovers Really makes that four circle dynamic work wonders. Might not be so compelling without it, due to the open spaces.

I think that's actually wallpaper printed out from an illustration - at least that's what he did for the silver wall art at the Otero show. I wouldn't think it would be an unreasonable request to get another roll printed out with purchase of the painting.

Preliminary sketch for Big Five. Is it wrong that I like the sketch more than the painting?

Preliminary sketch for Big Five. Is it wrong that I like the sketch more than the painting? Not at all. James has been doing the same prelminary sketch process since his first Fables comic book covers back in 02 and there are a number of them that look better than the final version for one reason or another. He's a master of linework and has amazing drawing skills, which are occasionally hidden beneath an excess of Photoshop or experimental painting styles. Big 5 is a cool painting, but the monochrome red approach makes it look like a gigantic drawing to me, so I agree that the original drawing is just as powerful.

Oddly, that MS Paint-like scribble effect that first horrified me in some of the pieces from Rebus has begun to grow on me. I swear, all the stuff I used to try and draw with a mouse and that program in Windows back in day had all those rough back and forth elements. Kinda funny.
