Frank and I were discussing releasing a very limited edition print for his upcoming show... I was curious to see if any Forum Art lovers had a preference of his recent images? www.frankgonzales.net or www.bealsandabbate.comThis would be his first print release... Thanks for the input in advance. -Bobby Beals Sent from Robert Beals of Beals & Abbate Fine Art (www.bealsandabbate.com)

Pure tour de force! Print might have to be on the large side though, so I'm not sure how people would feel about that or production/pricing concerns.

I guess I prefer these "rougher" works much more over his more refined pieces, that could almost be put in a "bird book": oh, I never seen these, and I like em a whole lot!.. always loved the "dead pixel" effect he's been using, and they are coming out more in these rougher pieces.. very nice!

I was at the show earlier this mont at Thinkspace and purchased the following piece. It's fantastic. I was first drawn to Frank's work when it was 'rougher' but this new slightly cleaner style is fantastic in real life. I'm happy to own a piece of his. Honestly, I might never buy another but not because the work sucks but, I only have so much wall space. I apologize to adding to a old post but I just joined this forum. BTW, I later found out the guy he was rolling with was another artist that I knew his work but never knew his name and I want one of those now. Not sure why I can't post the image of the piece I bought is named "Azul" which is only 234KB but the Thinkspace link is: thinkspacegallery.com/works/?exhibit=198

I recall seeing on his instagram that he was in town with Richard Salcido. Is that who you mean Rachel? Yes svenman, it was Richard Salcido. I talked to Frank during the show and learned he was roommates with Richard in college and they both used to do Grafitti art and dark sketchy figures before they met and continued to do it through school. A few minutes later artist Jophen Stein leaned in and told me they both turned to "dark" landscapes, then Richard started on mixed media with birds in them then Frank started on birds. Then Salcido decided to began to paint figures and "fake portraits" exclusively when a gallery told him he'd never make money painting fake faces. Frank told me later that he and Richard share every painting or drawing through the whole process over photo text. That was when I told my husband who was on the fence about buying a piece to get one. I love backstories. Maybe I'll start a thread on Salcido. It'll be a week or so. Do you know of Salcido's work? wait! This is a Frank Gonzales thread. I love Frank's work and I'm happy to have one hanging in my living room.

I love Frank's work and I'm happy to have one hanging in my living room. yeah i came across his work probably around 2005/6 or so... i think he was showing at scribble theory and he used to make more 'abstract' pieces containing text/type and simple motifs rather than portraits, but he used the same regressive / destructive techniques. I came close to buy a piece at the time but never did. i must admit i preferred that style of work much more than the faces he concentrates on now, but i like what he does in terms of applying he reductive treatments...
