wow. looks like a new direction - the colors don't seem as rich and the creatures look more cartoony to me than in some of his other work. interesting. (i love the little fella in the tree - i cracked up laughing when i saw him and you're right Hung, the sculpt is positively stunning.

Another one that he asked Mike Leavitt to sculpt for him... That wood one was sculpted by an artist in Bali. I wonder if it's the same one that Ryden uses for his frames. Hm....

I thought that exact thing when you posted the pic, how similar it looked to one of Ryden's frame, and I didn't even know that it was made in Bali. Then again, most likely there's a lot of great wood workers in Bali. Either way it's a great little piece. I know I'd like to have it.

Great piece but I don't know how I feel about an artist commissioning someone else to sculpt for them... Is it considered their work anymore? Would you pay top dollar (equivalent to that artist's prices) for something like that? What's to prevent me from commissioning another artist to carve out more creatures from his paintings?
Now if the sculpt is made by the artist himself like David Choe, Brendan Monroe etc... that's a different story.

I look at it more like a collab piece of two great artists. You know... Musgrove and "some guy" in Bali.

they're probably not the same. i heard ryden uses people in thailand for his hand-carved frames.

holy crap this is amazing. who cares who sculpted it? It is true to Scott's work and it has his blessing. It is different than owning an original painting but I think that makes it even cooler or at least more collectible.

has anyone seen the preview for his new show? i'm stunned at the prices i don't really follow his work closely, but i'm not sure if i've missed something - there seems to be a very high price point for his work here!

as far as the prices, they aren't that far off of his previous shows. Lineage was one, and I think RoqLaRue was another recent one.

Congrats, that is really an awesome piece! (And I feel sorry for you guys who missed out ). There are really some crazy pieces in his new exhibition, these two just made me laugh (with the boots in the second piece): As far as the pricing goes, if my memory serves me well, his latest exhibitions didn't have such large pieces, so there were no $28.000 price tags. Well, until I am in the position to buy any artwork, I'll just stick to my "Accidental Taxidermist" catalogue. And apparently another book is in the works

Scott's work is incredible and I think the only reason you don't see him at the Ryden/CRG/Schorr price level is because he doesn't seem to have any celebrity fans? Who knows...
