Because I still feel wronged by the bureaucracy, inefficiency, and negligence of the Red Cross circa Katrina in 2005 and how long it took and how small of a percentage of the financial resources got put to work in that disaster, I opted for Save the Children this go around. www.savethechildren.org/Among many programs focusing on future generations, one works to provide children safe and fun spaces within the rescue centers, ideally diverting their attention enough with playful activities to continue allowing them to be kids in the moment and to minimize the long term psychological repercussions as much as possible. More importantly, over 90% of their money hits the ground in program expenditures. While I'd encourage to give as much as possible via their website, a simple text to 20222 with the word "Japan" in the body of the text will donate $10. You can do it three times in a row too and it will simply get charged to your next months cellphone bill. I couldn't help but think how genius this group programs sounded.
