Had a great time at this show. Unfortunately I didn't win a single auction! Argh! I lost the Cate Rangel auction with just a minute to go apparently. Seems like everything I bid on, someone else wanted more.
But I'm really happy my bidding helped raise money for a great cause. Super show. Loads of great art.
I took a few pix - not a ton since I was out with my wife and others and was too busy drinking, talking and taking it all in. I'll upload some when I get a minute.

Any idea if the Obey tables sold? And if so, how much? It's a somewhat laughable "art" product indicative of Shep's willingness to brand his name on nearly anything. But when looking through images of the 2009 show after it happened, I have to admit I dug this one.. The new ones looked pretty well constructed again.

The starting bid on the new ones was $4,000 each. I didn't see a bid on either of them around the middle of the bidding period. I didn't check back on them though to see if they sold. Sorry.

none sold... starting price of 4k made them too high i think... they should have started lower to start a bidding war... so taht people get caught up in the moment

Didn't win anything this year. Paul Watso out bidded me on the Tamayo's piece. I almost had the Soto piece but the other bidder almost cried to me so I let her have it....I was kicking myself, 5 minutes later.

please just sometimes some people prefer to not post prices if they know them, I guess an auction would not have an issue as it is not like a preview or something.. So yes please post.

preview or not, feel free to post. price secrecy doesnt benefit collectors and i see no reason to maintain it even if certain galleries wish we would. personally i always find the "price on request" galleries remind me of mattress and car salesmen that just wont give you a straight response on price. just my .02 of course.

epi I also agree I hate a gallery that has price on demand, why not list the price and save themselves time and hassel

i think it's not cool to post prices when previews are going out, but when a show is in the public domain - especially a public auction then there is no problem doing it... i'd be interested to see the prices at this event for sure.
read an interesting article re charity auctions and the detrimental effect putting work in charity events it can have on artists markets recently. i'll see if i can find it...

would be interesting to hear from the gallery owners as to why they choose whatever it is their particular gallery does. thinkspace sets a great standard for openness on current and past sales. i have a lot of respect for that. although i cant prove it, i suspect that open pricing benefits an artist's longevity by encouraging a degree of price stability and discouraging speculation.

I personally think most galleries that do not post prices don't want "egg on their face" if the show does not do well. And for some evil galleries not posting prices helps them manipulate the market so not everyone is offered the same price. More than once iv been in a Orange County or L.A. Gallery and inquired for a price just to be asked "What do you want to pay?" (Really!)
A few galleries i love that post prices would be Thinkspace, Roq La Rue, Copro, LeBasse, Cory Helford. Noticed awhile back Levine stopped posting prices and marking pieces sold. (always curious if a show sold out opening night)
Galleries should post prices.

yes that was the one farty. thanks!
i kind of resonate with what he says in some ways, but not in others.
there have been some examples of work going for an absolute song in charity auctions. wasn't there a parla piece that went for like $4k a couple of years back?
anyone have any info on how sales at this show went?
