I have gotten a few PMs and emails asking why I am parting with certain works in my collection, a few new people curious and some people I consider friends I have made on this amazing board. I will not be leaving this board, and sadly me and my wife will not be taking a year off, we will be starting to embark on another adventure however.
September me and my wife of 14 years ( wow I am only 35 thats scarey ) will begin to start a chapter in our lives that will take us who knows where. As we prepare both financially and mentally for this adventure we have a few loose ends to tie up. We are very close to selling our home in GA ( we have an offer and it appears to be good to go ) , we are currently paying off the last of credit card debt ( 1 month max should have it cleared up ) and finally we will begin to pay our attorney as we begin the process of private adoption, so while we are giving up a life of do what we want when we want, we figure we are very lucky to live so well why not share some of that with a child who may not be as fortunate.
Odd this message board is the second people we have told. So all is well hopefully we are ok and the screening process for us starts in Aug.

thank you, we both are terrified and hope we can clear the backround check, the house inspection, and so much other crap ( I mean crap like tons of interviews, family interviews, and so on not crap like this will not be amazing ) so who knows, figured we had to try before we got so old we could not chase a kid around.

Best of luck during this process!!! I have seen both sides of the result, and I think people are selfless for even trying - I have great respect for anyone who does.

Hung after much back and fourth and my parents offering to pay for the attorney I looked around and did not feel right taking money from them when I have so much in my homes, so I sat with my wife and we decided I would trim down the collection and focus on a few artists so I am going to hold onto the Frizzel works and the Fairey works as well as a few other personal pieces, On a positive note I will be able to make a large purchase artwise after the backround check which will be nice ( we have show little debt and a good amount of cash within our bank the attorney said it will help alot ) so I have that to look forward to.. thanks for the kind words

sure this isn't a result of a heavy wager placed on the heat that didn't payoff i've heard of our brand of "weird" art being a major factor in denial from adoption services, so prob a good move. seriously tho, congrats.

if there was ever a good reason, then this is it. a piece of artwork can only generate so much happiness, and the advent of a child is indeed a truly fulfilling, wonderful experience.
good luck to you both cory.

Great news highbrow! I had a feeling it had to do with something like this. I'm sure everything will work out fine for you two. Years ago I stopped collecting all together due to the birth of my first child. I stayed away from the habit for about 10 years. When I started again I found the scene had exploded. Best wishes and get ready for a whole new life!

Lowpro you caught me it was because I went to Heavy on my Miami Heat betting this season, LOL sadly the art I am getting rid of is far from the weird stuff, LOL... I am sure I will replace some of the works but figured had to sacrifice today for the better of tomorrow.
I did however tell my wife I will punch her in the ass if we have any backround issues after I part with these works, LOL...
thanks again everyone

congratulations on your embarkation of a new chapter... my wife and i did something similar journey, but much on a tiny level compared to yours. we actually sold many of our beloved dunnies (including the original complete set of Series 1), a few well-sought Banksy prints, and a few rare kicks as we quit our full time jobs and moved to the unknown island of madagascar to do some voluntary teaching for 6 months without any outside help.
after the teaching, we came back home with fulfilling, rejuvenated spirits. we gained our respect for humanity and will never forget our experiences in madagascar.
hb, i can imagine that the new chapter will be filled with more prominent loving family life!

Having recently become a semi-adoptive parent myself, we had to experience an unfortunate incident with the kids biological father / ex-husband. As soon as we heard we were going to be visited by the department of children and family services, we immediately cleared our walls of anything that could be construed even marginally, as questionable, so we have stacks of works laying around, just waiting for this fiasco to clear up. Then we will bust out the hooks and go back to work.
The sad thing is that so much of this type of work is thought provoking, but little minds have little room for clarity.

But I suppose it doesn't surprise me in this day in age. Better to be safe than sorry.

Lowpro I know you were joking but i was told by our attorney to remove any thing that could be deemed questionable art, books, toys, etc. so I am slowly emailing pictures off to him to see what is good and bad. I promise it will all return to the walls, if we are granted this dream i will raise this child in a home full of very questionable items, LOL ( he also told me no jokes like that )

Wishing you all the best, too, and I am glad that you give up some of your art for a happy reason (I got already worried that it might be something bad like a medical issue). Everyone who raises kids has my utter respect.

After reading this entire thread ( all the posts so far ) big tears formed in my eyes. It's a wonderful thing you and your wife are doing. You are selling some of your artworks for a very good reason. ______________BEST WISHES TO YOU BOTH !

Today was out first prospect meeting with the attorney and boy do we have some work to do. I learned today my choice of books, furniture, toys ( bearbricks and Kaws ) sculptures , movies and I am sure other things I am forgetting are not suitable for a childs home. Funny when I grew up looking back I am amazed im still alive , living in a condo development where there were more kids then adults LOL. First thing to move to storage is coffee table, goodbye 90 plus year railroad cart that has wood splinters, nails, and split boards sitting on top of the most amazing rusty colored cast iron wheels, that when you put your feet on it , it does move and be careful if someones foot is under it, because the wheels will get you and you will loose a toenail. I have a list now , LOL... I did make perfectly clear to my wife all this items will be returned from storage once they go and our house turns into a IKEA style dorm lounge...
