Hi, ive had a couple of apple products in the past.... titanium powerbook that cooked it self to death and currently a imac (getting on to 4-5 years old now). Im thinking of picking up a new piece of kit and wondered if there are any owners out there use any of the newer products...
I like the look of a Mac air.... but the lack of fan scares me
Maybe a new imac..... obviously this doesnt help me when traveling about abroad or up n down the country, but they are serious pieces of kit
IPAD... never even used one, but im wondering how things like the lack of a USB hinder this as a piece of kits thats easy and hassle free to use. Although this is obviously a contender for being able to move it about easy
Does anyone here use any of the 3 above ?... have opinions of pro's n cons for all or any ?. Or use alternative bits of kit that I should take a look at ?
Any feedback would be great... sorry if that doesnt make sense, its just I have an incoming bout of man flu which is pickling my brain

I've said it before many times over on this board. The 13" Mackbook Air is the single greatest piece of electronics, let alone computer, I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Highly recommended!

probably far too late on this one, but as far as the ipad.....the hp touchpad was firesaled down to $99/$149 in the US for the 16gb/32gb versions a couple weeks ago. if you were looking for an affordable alternative you could look into that. i believe the markdowns haven't happened in the UK, or are far harder to get ahold of. the stock basically sold out very quickly but hp is making a limited amount more. very nice piece of hardware and webOS is surprisingly nice. you can easily install a program called preware which gives you access the the homebrew community's patches and applications, and in a matter of minutes with a few tweaks i increased the UI performance of mine by about 300%. anyways, just a thought if you were thinking tablet. the ipads are kind of a tough jump for me to consider given the price point, but i was willing to try anything for $99 and it's badass. the trick is finding one for that price now.

Shine, I have to agree if you really do not need he dvd drive ( or do not mind lugging one around ) by far greatest thing ever, the solid state drive makes a huge difference in speed. As far as a student discount I would be more then willing to offer up my student email and password for you as when I purchased mine I did not have my student id and they allowed me to just log into my schools email. If you wish to call and see if they will allow you to just log into schools email drop me a pm.

Cool, I was thinking of maybe going for a refurbished model from apple. Even though they are technically 2nd hand, they would have had all new parts fitted and offer decent value with roughly 20% off for most models

My current Macbook is a refurbished model from '09. I had a problem with the dvd drive when I first got it but had no problems getting the drive replaced at the Apple store. You get a full 1 year warranty and can purchase an extended one so imo there's really no reason not to.

Cool, I was thinking of maybe going for a refurbished model from apple. I almost only buy Apple refurb. There is no reason not to. Comes to you in perfect condition, and if you have an issue, carries the same warranty. You can even get the same extended warranty if you choose. Refurb is the way to go IMO.
