Just arrived home from my long 2 week adventurous vacation in Bolivia... but didn't see any package waiting from my A.S.S. :-( I hope that someone got his from me as I see that my gift was shipped on Dec. 12th and don't see anyone reporting about it here on this thread... I hope my ASS recipient is happy because it was difficult to decide for this prominent collector who pretty much has full knowledge of art... ;-) Had to think out of the box for this one!

Not sure (very anonymous package, and I'm on more that one art secret santa list), but I received a terrific new book by Allison Sommers titled Flotsam. This coincides beautifully with the show at Thinkspace and my impending acquisition of a small OG by Allison. Many, many thanks.

Back in Sweden and real life after 1 month visit and no ASS in my mailbox, didn't get anything in the States where I was for Christmas. Not worried just anxious, assuming it'll be worth the wait. Glad to see my gift was well appreciated!

Came back in Vienna after a six week holiday, unfortunately , no package waiting for me. COuld be lost maybe? I'll check around!

it appears we have had some really lazy A.S.S on here, I am scared a majority of our participants did not get their A.S.S. ( to my A.S.S who was kind enough to contact me via a secret name the package that went to my Florida address my be returning as my post man took apron himself when he saw the property empty to stop delivering mail. I am sending someone to post office on tuesday to see about retrieval ) People maybe contact our fearless leader of the A.S.S if you have not gotten so he could contact. I would hate to see this great time grow but get a black eye because people aren't participating ( and I hope I am wrong and the people got their A.S.S and are just being lazy not posting pictures )

just got home recently today to see my ASS package waiting after being out of town for a week. here are the photos:    so, mancub, thank you for the lovely pieces even though some of the painting pieces have crumbled during the postal transit. the drawing using ballpoint pen is quite detailed and amazing! it seems like you're off to a great start with the first piece of the 2012!  looking forward to seeing what you can do with your canvas soon! |

I think next year we have to re evaluate the A.S.S I have a few ideas such as we start a little earlier and all gifts need to be shipped to our fearless A.S.S. leader by a date and he will then forward them on, after whomever they are going to confirms he or she has paid for the second half of their package. So if I pull weezy I would then send my gift to Sven, he would hold it until I then sent postage to get it to weezy ( we could find someone on each side ) once I did that Sven would then send me my gift if my person had paid the postage, which means if my person did not pay the second half of postage Weezy would still get their gift but whomever had me would not get their gift either, and I would then make efforts with sven to obtain my gift.

Sounds like too much trouble to me... It would be one thing if we all lived in the the states. But with customs and international shipping, that just doesn't seem like the best of ideas... If you really wanted to do something to ensure participation, is have a paypal account where you put in $30-$50 to participate, and once you can prove you shipped your item, the money is refunded... Shipping everything to one person to forward on would just be a nightmare (imho). I like your idea insomiac- but I agree with highbrow that we need to start earlier. I know I made a hasty decision on my gift because I felt rushed. Maybe all participants should be "in" by Nov 30th? Of course, if we did implement the paypal deposit, our organizer would still be put out having to pick out gifts for those who did not receive their gifts- so maybe a couple other mods or trusted board members could help them out there too. |

Starting a little earlier sounds like a good plan - that time of year is busy for everyone and not having an extra thing to worry about or rush would be nice (would also ensure things arrive before Christmas). Maybe a minimum of 25 posts to participate? That way only more serious and active members are involved. Those that 'participated' this year and didn't send anything shouldn't be eligible the following year. Would be nice to keep it the least complicated as possible, I'm sure Sven would appreciate that |

So I am not exactly happy that I have not received my gift (yet), but I don't want to assume the worst in people. Christmas is just a bad time for shipping stuff, and unfortunately things do get lost in the mail (something we had to experience too, with sending out a lot of orders before Christmas).
Starting earlier would be nice, but organizing this thing any other way would probably take the fun out of it. If we don't trust each other that eyeryone sends their gifts, then we should better drop the idea at all instead of implementing some pawn-system or else.
Or maybe really let only people with a high number of posts participate?
It is great that Sven is taking the task of organizing this in the first place.

For me the paypal idea it isn't so much of a trust issue, but ensuring those who participate receive a gift. Katrin and mancub have an excellent point about keeping it simple though. I'd be interested in knowing if those who did not receive would be less likely to participate next year based on that experience.

Aaaaaaghhhhhhh! After weeks of sitting wondering if I had offended with my secret santa gift, I just got an email from amazon to the effect that the parcel I sent was deemed 'undeliverable'!!!
