seems overdue so in honor of his newest solo, here's a thread for him. this is easily my fav cabinet painting he's done. exhibited at this years miami basel. if only this dealer didn't have rights to it and didn't try to ridiculous gouge upfront, as she's notorious for, only to "discount" down to where primary prices are, this would be mine already. too salty a taste left from the negotiations tho, so passed on principal. but still keep coming back to it.

Well it was meant to be part of next years plan. Had my eye on this one so when epicfai posted an image I thought maybe waiting another few weeks was not a good move. Happened a few times in the last couple of years on Tuaba Auerbach and Ryan McGinness pieces, so once bitten twice shy. Delighted to have added this Paul Wackers work to my collection and a big thanks to Sally for all her help.

An excellent addition to your collection.

That cabinet piece is wonderful, lowpro. Sorry you won't be adding it to your collection. I admire your reasoning, however.
That really is a beautiful sculpture piece, harveyn. Congrats!
I hope Wackers will be getting some well deserved attention in this upcoming year. His show in 2006 was one of the picks by artforum.

been following paul for years, and i think this may be his best show to date. i'm really into it. for me, the big cabinet painting in this show is my favorite of that style. if i could, i'd swoop it up fast. really happy to see him getting some love.

This is a great great show by a great artist. The cabinet piece is on another level and then there's the rest...

while large and with the most objects he's ever included in one, i think the cabinet piece falls a little flat personally. that said, these are my favorite things he does in concept and composition and i bet the scale alone is enough to impress in the flesh. piece of the show for me. and always been partial to this painting lehman has had in inventory for a bit. the thought of three inanimate objects meeting in the woods to have a discrete conversation is too funny. what could they be talking about? can they even talk at all? so many questions. quite the philosophical quandary;)

Most of his work does nothing for me but oh man, those cabinet pieces and Lowpro's favourite are exceptional pieces! Fantastic.

I have watched this artist gain a healthy amount of steam over the past few years, especially as of late, and I just don't "get it". I will admit that I do like the piece lowpro posted a good bit as it pops quite a bit more than any other work I have seen. however, I don't think it does much more for me than...."yeah that is easy on the eyes and pleasant". there is nothing in particular I don't like about his work, but overall it just falls in that in between realm for me........take it or leave it

somewhat relieved to hear that variations has sold. I was pretty close to buying that piece while i should probably be saving some $, as well as some wall space. someone is a lucky buyer though...

Just received the word that Paul Wackers and his represented San Francisco gallery, Eleanor Hardwood, have been nominated as one of the Scope Foundation Award for its NY show. If he wins the award, he'll have a solo exhibition in Basel courtesy of the Scope Foundation.

For you Europeans, Paul Wackers will have his new show coming up soon at Alice Gallery next week: "Wait and Watch Awhile Go By" by Paul Wackers The New York based artist is first of all concerned with figurative painting, which he tends to slightly abstract. His pictures are engaged in non-places, vegetable landscapes with bookshelves and window ledges, offering an insight in a parallel reality. Deserted spaces reflect an inner perception and remind the beholder of the still-life’s by the well-known Dutch classics e.g. Willem van Aelst. The regular order of the objects seems to be maintained by the image. Cans, candleholder and empty vases fill up the interior. But at a second glance straight and twisty lines disturb the familiar impression. Formally the geometrical aspects of the composition subsist side by side to the organic elements. The traces of individual interpretation become visible on the plane canvas and on the wooden panel. By this means the obscure inner impressions melt into the existing phenomena. alicebxl.com/---- Just saw a preview of the works, and I have to say that a few of them are pretty strong. Love how the artist makes a great combination of balance elements in his works: inorganic/organic, past/present, dark/light colors, artificial/natural, realistic/superficial, etc.

First works with no color I have seen from him. Perhaps a venture into new territories for him. His subject matter may not quite work with this sort of palette though. I think there is too much going on for the mono palette to reach its potential
