Im interested in buying a polaroid camera, but all I know about them is that the film is expensive due to production being stopped. Does anyone here know anything about them ? I need pointing towards a half decent camera.

I need pointing towards a half decent camera. I investigated this idea a few months back and concluded a/ a good pola (now v retro) camera is quite straight forward to come by.. b/ a company has started up producing the film ( www.the-impossible-project.com/)c/ costs are .. prohibitive.. long term.. cameras ? .... I forked for a couple of sigmas... then a contax i4r.. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contax_i4R)now have driven off a cliff and bought a fuji x100 (will never sell the i4r it's a work of art) .. the sigmas were sold.. too slow. x100 ? aha yes... ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujifilm_FinePix_X100 ) good luck in yir search..

For a basic old school version, take a look at Fujifilm INSTAX 210...this is their "wide format" version but they also make a "mini" version (film for either is still produced by Fuji and easily available). I've had an INSTAX 210 for a bit over a year now with no complaints. If you want to go seriously old school...take a look at Holgaroids. It's a plastic Holga camera body with a Polaroid film back. Film for this is a bit harder to come by (and more expensive) but you can get some really great effects playing around with the exposure/development times. You can also do transfers with this film.
-good luck-

I picked up an SX-70 recently and though the film is pricey, when you get a good shot it's a great memento. The one I purchased was used off ebay, but seems to be in great working condition, plus the Impossible Project now has released a flash for the camera, so no more disposable light bars!

EDIT: just checked out that sx-70 and its a tidy looking piece of kit !
