I got to get me a piece of his before I die. That's now become my goal in life, I'm on a mission. He's good, nuff said.

I am a big fan of Johnny's. The first two pics in this post are ones that I own. They were in my opinion the best value paintings I have bought in the last two years. The quality is just awsome. The painting "Grace" below is among my favorite pieces I own bar none!

The painting "Grace" below is among my favorite pieces I own bar none! I just love the color palette he uses ,with the light blue and the red, and the frames the pieces are in. Since you seem like a big fan, do you know a good place to find information on his upcoming shows? I have a link to his blog but it's way out of date.

I have a real tough time finding out about his shows. In my opinion they are not promoted properly. He would be much more popular if he was. I just keep an eye and ear out. And friends in the Art world let me know when something comes up. I bought the shoes that are on his myspace page by luck!
Just keep looking. The piece that looks like a bouy above. Sold on ebay. So you never know where you will see one of his pieces.

The only show I know of is the one he has at Thinkspace in October with Ekundayo. So, hopefully I can get something then.
EDIT: He also seems to be part of a group show at Bunny Gunner in Pomona,Ca on April 12th with Josh Clay, Germs, Ekundayo, Andrew Hem, and Mike Alvarez. The shows titled Heavy Weight(Paper Show) so I guess he'll have some drawings there. Problem is Bunny Gunner doesn't seem to have a way to purchase stuff online.

Really? I always assumed that it had sold at the CoproNason Big Money show... even though it was listed for $3,200. It is very special, but that seemed like a lot, especially with a Travis Louie of the same size listed at $1,000 less. www.copronason.com/moneyweb/

I guess Rareusgold meant whoever bought it from that show ended up selling it on the Bay. Maybe? The price is kinda scary, I'll just have to suck it up.
Hey, look at that, I'm a full member with this post. I guess that means you're stuck with me now. ;D

Speaking of scary prices, here's his piece from the "The Alternative Philosophy" show at Leonard Street Gallery in London: It's called "Friday" and it's only £5000.00. Still a little pricey even if you live in England but since I'm dealing in Dollars it would cost me about $10,000.00. OUCH! I do wish I could afford it though because it's another exceptional piece from him.

When I first saw his stuff, I could have sworn the artist was Jeff Soto. Glad to see he has developed distinct style with the rusted/colors look...

Thought I'd move this amazing image by Johnny into it's rightful thread. It looks amazing and only excites (yet saddens) me for the pending thinkspace show. I have a strong feeling the work is going to be out of my, and many others, financial grasp. Hell, his price points already blow me away, especially for an artist who has yet to have a single landmark solo show. But there is certainly demand the man's work, in spite the lack of gallery experience he has, and I suppose it's just simple market economics at work. I guess only time will tell how his upcoming show is priced. In case folks didn't check Mark Murphy's Superhero SDCC exhibit, here was Johnny's contribution to it...which I'm the proud new owner of and personally think it crushes the two included in the Copro Hi-Fructose show...but I'm also a Batman freak. Bat Man 8.5"x11.5" Pen/Ink/Mixed Media on watercolor paper and wood Needless to say, I have grown increasingly fond of KMNDZ's work. I was wary at first of his work being potentially a wee bit too derivative, especially being a Soto fanatic. In reality, however, what work these days isn't inspired by a predecessor of some sort. True originality is by it's very nature impossible. It's all about how an artist captures that inspiration and cultivates it into his or her own style. And while the jury is still out for me personally, I definitely feel Johnny has begun to find his own stylistic niche. I mean, who doesn't love rusty robots...and his color pallet rules! Plus, we need some new discussion fodder with all the Kawasaki and Sol cheerleading on this board. Ha. I kid. I know you all are obsessed.

What a great piece you got! Love it. I too originally thought his stuff was a little too much like Sotos but now with the new color palettes and direction he's going I think he's found a voice of his own... Can't wait for the show. I'm supposed to not buy anything but this will be tempting....
Does anyone have the preview or pics from the superhero show by the way? Murphy doesn't seem too responsive to email which is weird because he seemed so quick with it before. Hence I feel like he must hate me for some reason.

Hence I feel like he must hate me for some reason. Strange. He was incredibly responsive and helpful to me. But that was also on Monday. I think if you approached him about it closer to Thurs he might not have been as responsive due to being busy with show. Who knows? He did ask if I knew a Hung and, if so, to stay as far away as possible. Jk. Here's a direct link to the work on his blog. There was a bunch of the work in preview form as of last weekend on his blog too. I think this is the complete exhibit tho. murphydesign1.blogspot.com/2008/07/superhero-artists-vol-1.html

congrats on the new KMNDZ purchase my friend. And I must add, quite the deal in comparison to the prices at the group show. The upcoming Red Forest show at Thinkspace is definitely going to be an interesting landmark for Johnny in the realm of both new work and price for his art.

I'm sure he's just super busy, there is a lot of great stuff he's doing right now.
