"It Wanders" is not only my favorite from this show, I believe it to be his definative piece to date...it will certainly go down as one of his most important pieces.

not really a fan of the work in the show, i really like The Embrace, simple, beautiful. Mr. Blister and Dark Passage are my second and third choices.

I think Perish is my fav of this show...anyone know off hand how much that one was? I'm sure it was one of the smallest...

So glad I started this poll. The results and comments reinforce that beauty is most definitely in the eye of the beholder. I had a feeling the results would be somewhat varied, but not this much. Definitely thought a clear favorite would emerge. Extremely surprised that "It Wanders" could be legitimately viewed as the worst of the bunch. But there is also some praise for some of my least favorite pieces...so again, beauty if in the eye of the beholder. That is the great thing about art; everyone's got a different opinion on what's great and what's not so great. And thankfully, it's with an artist like Craola, with such a diversely creative style, where there will invariably be something for everyone.
Looking at the show as a whole, I think it's quite strong. Not as epic as I was expecting - or hoping rather - even though there are plenty of epic paintings. There are a few pieces that completely missed the mark for me, a bunch that were reasonably strong, and then some that were down right next level. I think we can all admit that it's a rare thing to truly "love" every single piece from a particular show or from a given artists portfolio when viewed in its entirety. Some artists come closer to hitting that mark, as a result of maybe staying within a stricter artistic niche and not straying too for from their trademark compositions. With an artist like Simkins, however, where his work is so complex and riddled with different characters, emotions, objects, and themes, there's a much higher probably for some flops. But without some serious risk taking, there wouldn't be enough potential energy for those occasional mind-bending pieces to come about, for example "Duchess Dreaming", "The Embrace", "Never Alone", "Balancing Act", and especially "It Wanders"...which, in my opinion, is The Hallmark piece from this show, as well as top tier piece from Greg's entire artistic career to date, fully encompassing the fantastically imaginative world he has been striving for in all it's nuanced glory. I love everything about it...and am so glad that a print was made of it, so I can enjoy it on my own walls! I don't think I've ever been so excited about buying a print.
Very much looking forward to the completion of this phenomenal body of work, with It Wanders West. Should be interesting to see which show fairs stronger as a whole.

Just received the "it Wanders" print. Nice surprise that it's wrapped & ready to hang! Ours is due tomorrow according to the track - so when you say "wrapped" are you saying its already put onto stretcher bars or flat mounted? jIm

Sorry, it's on stretcher bars and even has the hanging wire on the back attached. Really nice print, but it certainly needs a frame. But you can hang it in the meantime or even attempt framing it yourself. I kind of think the stretcher bar part is the hard part. Is 24"x24" a standard size at Aaron Bros type spots??

All this time, I thought it was going to be easy to find a nice Dark Gold Baroque style Ready-Made frame with finished corners for this sucker. Little did I know, that they simply do not make Ready-Made in a 24x24. There were only a couple that my local framer could identify out of like 5 different premier moulding suppliers. So, going to go with a nice dark gold custom moulding. Either this... ..or this... Probably the latter. I'll obviously bring it in when it arrives on Friday and if it looks better with a Traditional Gold, I think I'll go with this... But I think the Antiqued, Dark Gold will look the best, for some reason. They're all like 4" in width too, so they're perfect.

Personally, I like your first choice the best - looks like the antiqueing wash works with the wallpaper in the piece. (hard to tell in those pics) When possible, I usually try to find a design element from the piece as a cue to "pick" the frame for me - the molding I'm hoping works out resembles the trim on the top arch of the chairs backrest! ie, jIm
