what a nice thread about sketches... just want to share some of the sketches that i've collected from artists so far. i've asked them to do a quick doodle as i knew that they would be very busy interacting (or better yet avoiding people) with strangers/friends/family at his/her reception/signing. i'm like a sketch-seeker instead of an autograph-seeker ;-) futura back in 2004 somewhere in nyc andrew bell at comic con 2005 david choe at his show in nyc - 2005 - he showed many of his pieces from his days in a prison in tokyo... what a great show that was... wish i had purchased a few of his works at that time though i was able to get his zine on his tokyo prison pieces. richard colman - 2007 armsrock at his SF show - 2008 ryan mcginley - 2008 i stumbled into him at CCA's MFA art show. I didn't expect him to be that tall. JLed at Touma's art reception show in LA - 2005 andrew schoultz - 2006-2007 luke at neckface's show james kilpatrick aka thesis at his show - 2007 yoskay y. - my wife and i were in LA for a friend's wedding and then beau from project gallery informs me that there's barry mcgee exhibition at Riverside Art Museum (RAM) so we decided to follow them there for a few hours before hitting the road back home in SF. So Yoskay and Edwin joined us for a ride to RAM and they actually sketched while I was speeding. What a steady pair of hands they have! edwin ushrio know hope at his first us solo in san jose i think i'll stop here for now as it's really taking forever to list the sketches here!

biskup tom i can't seem to recall who was it... james jarvis bill dunlap stephen tompkin thomas han ryan jacob smith shackleton (anyone know who this guy is?) matt furies ganyan nate frizell van dyke kelsey brookes gary baseman taxali i'm sure i have a few more that i've missed out... but then i guess i'll just stop here for now... enjoy! i think sketches really show the true character of artists when it takes a quick doodle to define themselves on a whim... but now that when i think about it, i realized that i only have a few ladies' sketches/poems in my books. (my wife's lame sketch is in the book). so i guess my next project is to approach the femme artists from now on... ;-)

some nice sketches here... i'm really bad at asking for sketches, so usually i get a dud and the hot chick/ little kid in front/back of me gets the bad-ass one.

oh the same thomas han? for some reason i thought it was a different one... i guess the han sketches were done about a year apart then! well, i'd need to take some pictures of my other sketches when i went to a taipei toy festival a few years ago. i got many cool sketches from there such as brotherhood ones, tim tsui, touma, etc...
i think it's just simply easy to get a sketch if you ask nicely which has been my approach...

Here are a few oldies I came across the other day. Both in books Joe Coleman (what became of him any way) inside his book Original Sin. Is THAT what I look like? From Ed "BIG DADDY" Roth, inside the book Kustom Kulture

Love this thread, some really nice sketches. I have a sketch book with some lovely pieces in it too that I'll post up when I get a moment. I think my sketch book is my most prized possession with great memories attached to each page.

As far as I have heard Joe Coleman is just focusing on a never ending list of commissions having reached the level he's at... wish he'd do another show sometime though.

thank you ;-) lucky that you got to meet mr. sashie. it'd be interesting to see how he'd sketch for me...
just met tucker nichols for the first time yesterday and he was gracious enough to sign two books as well as sketch some in my moleskin. his drawings are profound and great!
