Roq La Rue is pleased to present two artists to the gallery, New York's Sam Wolfe Connelly and Seattle's Casey Curran.
Sam Wolfe Connelly's work is both luminously beautiful and poetically sinister. For this exhibition, Connelly's black and white drawings show a lush mastery of shading and tone to create stunning and enigmatic images reflecting a dark Americana similar to David Lynch and Charles Burns. His paintings glow in tints of orange and yellows as if lit by the light of burning houses. Both evoke a haunting suburban teenage wasteland reflecting dark doings as well as the beauty found in the feral aspects of the night.
Connelly has exhibited at Gallery Nucleus, Spoke Art Gallery, Bluecanvas, Bold Hype Gallery, Gorker Gallery, The Red Gallery, and Beyond Eden Art Fair, and we are very excited to bring his fresh and gorgeous work to our audience.
Casey Curran is best known for his ornate, moveable objects which could be referred to as kinetic sculpture; but draws from language as part of the dialogue of his work. For this exhibit we will be exhibiting a series of wall mounted works, hyper-baroque pieces that drip with golden flora, taxidermy fauna and snow white metallic elements. With a gentle turn of a manual crank, mounted on the side of each piece, they spring to life. The effect is mesmerizing, blending industrial rococo fantasy with the nostalgic charm of 18th century automatons. He's been a collaborative partner with the provocative performance art group Implied Violence, now known as Saint Genet, for the past 4 years.
Curran has exhibited work at the Bellevue Art Museum, The Frye Art Museum, and The Guggenheim in NYC.
