Huot's piece was nicely priced. I concur, Dan's piece is beautiful.

Dan May's was amazing. Interesting that they are doing a two part release of the preview. Trying to build hype? Or just that they haven't received some pieces yet? I'm looking forward to Audrey's...

I was fortunate enough to pick up the Huot piece from this show Oh that's so cool, I'm glad to hear that you liked that one I'm actually completely terrified of most clowns (I blame Stephen King), but I really love Pierrot and Harlequin which is why I wanted to do my own version of a Pierrot... the dreamer and the innocent fool... There's amazing work in this show, I'm so proud to be a part of it!

Also happens to be one of my favorite Robert Williams pieces...

Greg Gossel...Faile?
|
|
|
Post by StephenW on Nov 15, 2008 9:25:33 GMT -8
Not Faile. Very much like Faile? Yeah. Faile definitely didn't invent the layered collage technique, but they're most known for their striking imagery involving "comic book" girls. Gossel uses this in most of his pieces, in an unoriginal and uninspiring way. However, his loosely knit pieces, with their "thrown together" look (versus Faile's "meticulously planned" look) almost seem more like something you'd actually see on the street, especially with his dull and muted colors. This is particularly apparent in the works where he has a single image covering 40-50% of the canvas. Not a fan, but I do not dislike it as much as when I first saw the work. It's actually grown on me a little. More of his work here: greggossel.com/work.html

Personally clowns freak me right out, but this show looks amazing! I wish it was convenient to see it in person, I really like the Kinsey piece.
