Roq La Rue presents Jason Wheatley (aka Ti Ku/Ti Kunkit) " Osmosis (and the Legend of Ti Ku ) " new paintings Opens Thursday August 1st 6-9p Roq La Rue is very pleased to present a show of magical realist paintings by emerging talent Jason Wheatley. The artist, who spends his time between Sweden and Salt Lake, creates gorgeously painterly and enigmatic still life works that depict table scenes with everyday objects, surrounded by an exotic menagerie of animals which add a dynamic layer of vitality and mystery to each piece. Highly symbolic, Wheatley prefers to let the viewer contemplate the symbolism rather than spell it out directly. Small monkeys are often a "character" in Wheatley's works, and Wheatley often refers to "Ti Ku", a small magic monkey that is evocative of Mark Ryden's imaginary monkey muse, although Ti Ku seems to get around a lot more! Wheatley's work tends to sell as quickly as he makes it- so this is a great opportunity to see a cohesive body of work by the artist. Please contact the gallery for more information or to be placed on a preview list. image "Venetian Sirens" "Flower Eater" work in progress
