Pretty cool. Is it just an exhibit or are they trying to sell the photos. I would be interested in buying a book if they make one. It's kinda interesting to see how some artists look like. Some exactly as you imagined, some totally different.

I believe they will be selling some of (or maybe all) the photos in limited runs but you should probably check with the gallery. There is a book project in the works. The next stop for this show is San Fran as it moves across the country.

Here's the link web.mac.com/jancorey1/Site_10/Photos.htmlFunny coincidence. Turns out one of the guys I trained with whom I've known for a long time finally said "hey you like art, maybe you know my brother, he's part of nanospore" LOL, their pic is part of this show...

Hello, I first learned about this exhibit a last week via the Juxtapoz site...and received multiple emails on it as well. Honestly, this is the sort of thing that makes me cringe. Something about the star-effer cult of celebrity thing. I mean, I'm always entertained by the behind-the-scenes photos in each issue of Juxtapoz and definitely appreciate that - it can be fun... and it's always cool to see a photo of the artist in a magazine's featured profile or interview. It's also cool when opening night photos are published on Juxtapoz or various Flickr and/or gallery sites. But really, an entire EXHIBIT of photos of "our favorite artists"? I just feel queasy thinking about how it's really just another component of the "hype machine". I mean, if there's such a thing as art groupies, I guess... Whatever. It's embarrassing to think someone would actually buy a limited edition photograph 1 of 12 of [insert name here] and frame it and put it up on their wall. Maybe it's not any different from one's willingness to have an autographed photo of Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, Russell Martin, Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Tommy Lasorda, etc - all sports heroes - framed and up on the wall. Maybe the exhibit will provide further exposure, to perhaps a mainstream audience, and lure people into the pop surrealist alternative art scene? heh, I doubt it. But.. what do I know anyway? I'm probably just out of touch. Just my unfiltered random thoughts on the concept...

That's why I passed on buying any of the photos. I didn't really know what I'd do with a picture of an artist I liked. If I owned a lot of their work I could probably hang the picture with the pieces but I think that would be something a gallery might do and not a collector. The funny thing was that the all the photos I liked were of artists I barely knew. I thought the price was another issue, a little steep. I still think it is a good concept to help people get to know the artists a little better. It would be nice if they could have many of the artists there to sign their own photos for people attending. Like a meet and greet. You also have to understand that this is Tatiana and Roman's show, it's their photos so it's their art, and I'm sure they had a blast taking the pictures of their friends and contemporaries.

i'd be down for an amy sol 8x10 autographed glossy photo <3 LOL. I feel you... But yah, I would never buy a photo of an artist and put it up on the wall. Especially not for $900. It just seems kinda weird. I mean I understand sports figures and movie stars, people in the public eye, but not artists. I think it would be a nice exhibit just to see if a certain artist looked the way you expected... I would much rather frame and put up a pic of me and artist together than one of the artist alone.

Agreed. I'm still interested in the book though, I could go for that.
