ARMSROCK & ELBOW-TOE: Mostly Memory and Jon Todd: Life SentenceThinkspace Gallery presents new works by artists whose street-based achievements reveal impassioned stratagems on top of fundamental creative impulses. Conceived in Bremen, ARMSROCK's expertly rendered drawings are commentaries on metropolitan isolation. Brooklyn-based ELBOW-TOE delivers a collection of hyper-realistic pieces inspired by Jungian psychology as well as mythology. Paintings by Jon Todd appear in the gallery's project room, betraying origins in American tattoo art and other pictorial traditions. Whatever the approach, all of the artists challenge society's power of recollection, suggesting that what we perceive as real can be more authentic than reality itself. – Tanja LadenWhenOpens Friday Dec 12 (7–11pm) Dec 12 – Jan 2, 2009 Thursdays–Sundays (1–6pm) WhereThinkspace Gallery 4210 Santa Monica Blvd. 323.913.3375
