I'm surprised no one's posted about Heisuke Kitazawa here before. Primarily known for digital work, Kitazawa will be exhibiting 30 handpainted works at this GR2 show, entitled "...And it Rained All Day." April 18 - May 6, 2009 Reception: Saturday, April 18, 6:30 - 10:00 GR2 2062 Sawtelle Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90025 (310) 445-9276 Giant Robot is proud to host ...And It Rained All Day, an art show featuring new works by Heisuke Kitazawa (a.k.a. PCP). Heisuke Kitazawa is a Japan-based illustrator and designer whose work graces video games, CD covers, and limited-edition self-published books. Robots and monsters, technology and biology, and blobs and angles collide, as his futuristic themes, modernist curves, and warm color palette create a glimpse into a world that combines hyper detailed science fiction with the cheerful whimsy of children's books. For the show, Kitazawa is preparing more than 30 pieces of brand new work, most of them painted for the first time with non-digital mediums such as watercolor, silk screens, and sumi ink. Kitazawa says that the show's theme is "finding ways to cope with unavoidable events (good or bad) in our lives," and recurring motifs include "donuts as halos" and "jellyfish as life itself." In addition to the original works, posters and giclee prints will be available. A reception will take place from 6:30 - 10:00 on Saturday, April 18.

You beat me to it - cool! Was going to throw this up here tonight, as was surprised it wasn't up as well. Highlighted this show on our Sour Harvest recommends email blast/post today.
I've always loved his work, but held off due to the mostly digital nature (nothing against digital work, just my taste), but very excited to see this new series. The postcard image and the other one I've seen thus far are great.

his piece at the recent video game show at GRSF caught my eye (had never heard of him before previously)... then i was delighted to see that he has a show at GR2 (well, would have been more delighted if it was at GRSF)

I like his work as well. I own several prints from him.
If anyone has time to stop by Weller Court in Little Tokyo (LA), there are large mural of his works all over over. Pretty cool.

His digital work is strong, but swung by over weekend and didn't end up taking shots. His OG work is nice, but still to be developed and the lighting there is so bad, super harsh glare no matter where I stood, so I gave up. Still worth swingin' through to check out though for sure.
