familiar friends featuring new work from Lisa Alisa, Cherri Wood, Lindsay Campbell and Erika Yamashiro artist reception: saturday april 19th, 2008 7-10p Los Angeles - project: gallery is proud to present "familiar friends," featuring new work from lisa alisa, erika yamashiro, cherri wood and lindsay campbell. The show will be the US gallery debut for both Erika Yamashiro and Lindsay Campbell. Alongside veteran NY "superflat" artist Lisa Alisa, the three emerging artists present work showcasing their unique styles, while giving us their versions of the female form. Bordering between innocent and erotic, each artist expresses their varying degrees of femininity through their alter ego's on canvas. We are left to ponder where self portrait ends and the characters begin. The show opens Saturday, April 19th, 2008. For preview information please contact the gallery. www.projectgalleryLA.com

i thought the Erika Yamashiro stuff was a little pricey, then realized some of them are freakin' huge. nice! Erika has been getting a lot of heat, but we did not want to get crazy on prices. The expensive ones are HUGE. What can i say, she likes painting big...as does Lindsay Campbell. Check out her big pieces too...

Some of the pieces are older works of hers - the larger two. The language barrier is brutal (see Bill Murray in Lost in Translation) but we hope to keep her in the right direction.
thank goodness i have Yoskay, he is about to become my translator. I really enjoy growing my roster internationally - but it is not always easy...
Love to hear everyone's feedback on Lindsay Campbell. We just booked her into 1988 SF for a show, and I think she is going to start getting quite a few more calls from other galleries. I personally like the fact she is working big...

Just got back from the Project: show. I went thinking that I was interested in Erika Yamashiro, but I have to admit that her work didn't really do much for me. Besides the relentness pinkness of it (I prefer her more earth-toned works from a year or so ago), her work wasn't as rendered as I'd expected, and her technique seemed a bit less proficient than it comes across in jpegs. On the other hand, Lisa Alisa's work is much better in person than it is on the computer. I thought this piece, "Debandada," was the show-stopper. This jpeg really doesn't do it justice, but there are some amazingly beautiful elements there, especially the goldfish in the lower right and the child's strange eyes. Her technique is tremendously precise. I believe this piece is still available.
