The Four Person show at BSFA opened on Saturday 5/9/09.
Ray Abeta

Ray Abeyta usually works in larger sizes, and is a world renown muralist, but for this show, he did a series of paintings that function as a single sketchbook, though the works are available individually for sale. He mixes Latin-American culture through a kitsch screen, creating a world where Elvis, luchadores, rodeo, St. Sebastiana, & dia de los muertos co-mingle in a stream of consciousness.
MARS-1
(full show images not available until 5/15)
MARS-1 has presented large format, cosmic paintings (2 in the $6500 range and 2 for $14,000 each) as well as resin editions (cute, two-foot-tall, robot Smoke Stack toys, in editions of ten in each of three colors -black, green & red). There are only a handful of these sculptures left at the initial offer price of $1200.
Damara Kaminecki

Damara Kaminecki is a very young Chicagoan, who creates cut-paper mosaics that combine silk-screen, hand-painted, penciled and pressed images in a beautiful combination that j-pegs can unfortunately do no justice. Each work is five or more layers deep, and her style is reminiscent of fellow Chitown native Tony Fitzpatrick, but also utilizes a 16th century wood-cut technique that brilliantly frames the vibrant tattoo patterns on top.
Chris Roberts-Antieau

Most of Chris Roberts-Antieau's works have sold, but many are still available and some might even say that the best pieces are still available (Houdini, Awkward Social Encounters, Celebrity Mugshots, and I Feel Sorry For Pluto).
Her work is not paint, but applique, which is a kind of cross-stitch meets needlepoint. It's incredible work with painstaking detail, and most of the pieces are large. If you've been looking for proof that the folk movement is alive and well, look no further. This AARP member from New Orleans is the real deal.
