Yes.
Tonight we are proud to announce an extraordinarily special Tiny Showcase release of Deth P. Sun's book: I See It All. The book was published earlier this year and is (as true as possible) a replica of a sketchbook drawn by Deth in the spring of 2008.
Tonight's I SEE IT ALL launch includes:
* One copy from the first edition (limited pressing) of Deth P. Sun's book: I See It All. A small sketch and a signature by the artist is on the first page of every copy.
* An archival limited edition print of a sketch drawn for Tiny Showcase, in a similar fashion to the sketches in the book.
* One "I See It All" sticker, drawn by Deth, and winner of the s. Finch "sticker of the year" award.
The beauty of an artist's sketchbook, if you are allowed the privilege to peek, is far beyond the experience of seeing a single completed painting. Every artist has a different relationship with their sketchbook. Some books are fiercely guarded, others lie about open and announced, some are filled with grocery lists, and others are pristine grounds for experimentation. But most importantly, they are the casual place that an artist can play.
Deth's book is an example of one of the finest sketchbooks I have ever seen. His pages are crowded with recognizable things we know from his paintings - a lantern, a sword, a tent - as well as things we'd never expect. It's teeming with the characters we've followed throughout their adventures - when we see them frozen in one moment in a painting. But to see them here, just hanging out, like backstage at a performance: rehearsing lines, trying out new sets, and experimenting with elements we'll never see in a finished work, we are allowed to skip from image to image as if following Deth's stream of consiousness. Maybe we'll happen upon a hamburger, a mix tape, an alphabet of bones, a heart breaking phrase, or a couple of birds smoking smoking and talking about girls and money. We're allowed to wander around in here, to see where it goes.
