Is it just me or does it look like Otto seriously ripped off (albeit poorly) some David Ellis style for his piece? Also, the Chompa piece looks to have bitten on Adam Flores...........

X3 Yes the Otto is a poor attempt at Ellis' motion line work he has been doing for years and years. It is not similar, it is an exact copy or attempt at. I always thought Otto's work was a little too close to Blaine's as well (even though they are friends) especially his bird houses. The Chompa piece looks exactly like Adam Flores who looks like Andrew Schoultz, meaning that Flores is looking at Schoultz, definitely not the other way. I think people who are still developing their style need to stop looking at their contemporaries and look back at older artists work or work that is not part of their small 'genre.' Whether intentional or not (and in the cases I say the former) things are looking way too similar imho. And so it continues......

yep, i definitely saw the shoultz likeness in the chopmas piece, can't say i know adam flores' work though. otto's work is very similar to blaine's older aesthetic. i know those 2 have done installations together featuring birdhouses, so i don't know what the deal is there...

i really like the chompas piece. i have to admit that i was and am still not completely familiar with adam flores and andrew schoultz. however i googled them and would like to ask you to be more specific on the likeness of chompas vs flores & schoultz. are you judging based on this single piece? or maybe only particular to this single piece? i can see your concerns, but only because all 3 painted wooden houses you call it alike? especially if you take a look at chompas other paintings i don't really see the "intentional" exact copy: you find more here: www.flickr.com/photos/jamsandwich/sets/72157606978612503/adam flores: andrew schoultz: i started a thread in the lowbrow forum, too. maybe its better to discuss there: artchival.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=artists&thread=2487

The lettering in the chompas piece kinda reminds me of Ray Fong/Lydia Fong aka Barry McGee i really like the chompas piece. i have to admit that i was and am still not completely familiar with adam flores and andrew schoultz. however i googled them and would like to ask you to be more specific on the likeness of chompas vs flores & schoultz. are you judging based on this single piece? or maybe only particular to this single piece? i can see your concerns, but only because all 3 painted wooden houses you call it alike? especially if you take a look at chompas other paintings i don't really see the "intentional" exact copy:

to be fair, the block lettering style looks to be fairly generic. i can think of a few other artists that have used a similar aesthetic. jeff soto and andrew hem to name a couple...
i'm interested to know what people think of the blaine fontana pieces. i love the painted and shaped wood elements, but am not too keen on the trees.

for me the trees on the fontana piece start making it interesting for me. just the painted and shaped woods would be, how should i say...simple. it would include a deeper message for me. while the trees add some sort of earthly grounded relation to the piece...makes me think about the the environment and life in general. not sure if i'm able to describe what i mean, but you may get my point.
what i don't understand is why they are selling it as 3 pieces separately? doesn't make sense to me...
plus: am i mistaken or does the installation include a background part, too. the shadows of the trees seem to me as painted and not related to the light source while taking the pic, but i may be wrong...
