I've been enjoying a calm day of James(Laid), Death Cab For Cutie(Plans, Narrow Stairs), Smashing Pumpkins(Gish) and Liz Phair(Whip-Smart).

Listening to this right now, and it works surprisingly well. A mash up of Fugazi and Wu Tang Clan www.wugazi.com/free download

I am having a hard time to get really excited by new music. There is maybe one new band or musician every other year that I really love, and the last music that really overwhelmed me was Neutral Milk Hotel over 10 years ago. This is a sure sign of getting old. The first band in a long time that managed to grab me is House of Wolves. It is mainly a one-man-project of singer/songwriter Rey Villalobos, for the band's name he just translated his name from Spanish to English. If you like Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens and Will Oldham, this could be for you. The entire debut album can be streamed here: houseofwolves.bandcamp.com/

The third installment, called 'Echoes of Silence', of The Weeknd‘s 2011 experiment in mixtape madness has finally arrived. For those not familiar with The Weeknd you should give it a whirl; all three albums in the trilogy are free and available here: the-weeknd.com/'House of Balloons', the first of the trilogy, is exceptional and I'm not normally a fan of R&B.

Could watch/listen to this on loop for hours. Hey droow, you know that that is Nico (Velvet Underground) - These Days on a loop, right? Courtesy of my wife here... a real music genius I would say (wife):

Could watch/listen to this on loop for hours. Agreed. Thanks for that. Video footage is timeless, but music mashup is priceless. As alluded to above, These Days guitar riff looped over the Emprie State of Mind beat..but I'm sure the latter was obvious. Forever fell in love with These Days as a result of it's integral use in the film Royal Tenenbaums. Mark Mothersbaugh work in compiling that and all of Anderson's soundtracks, and more importantly pairing the tracks with the scenes, is genius. The Needle in the Hay suicide sequence blew my mind the first time I experienced it. Not as compelling out context, but..
