nice. wondering about the significance of the colours and tags used on the pieces of military equipment in the last 2 pieces you posted... care to share chris? I'm glad you asked..... Tagging for me is the most expressive form of art right now, IMHO and most beautiful, ranks right up there with Asian and Arabic calligraphy, and BEST OF ALL it can be most destructive. I'm using it on objects that are in itself destructive and seemingly all powerful, rendering it useless junk. It symbolizes the powerless in their own way taking control. With my plane, (a real Iraqi plane sitting now in the desert), probably cost millions of dollars, could have helped its own people but now its a symbol of futility. I made it live again....well, until it collides with my friend. The tank painting is a much more different type of "tagging" The tank, which is a very powerful object, is painted like a clown, sticking out when it should be trying to hide. We all should have been aware what was happening around us economically, but we all continued on with our spending and greed. I was one of them and I'm paying for it, I was thinking the good times were going to be rolling on. But in 2009 I paid the price, bombed in my tracks, and looking silly. Epic Failure.

I know I really liked the fragmented earlier works from the previous few years but I think the newer pieces are really growing on me and I hope that by year's end something will be on my walls. Keep up the great work Chris!

Buffalo Soldiers, Next Right Oil on Canvas 40X30 Driving back home from Denver before I moved out here to Colorado, I was on a lonely Hwy going north in Kansas to Nebraska. No radio out there so I popped in the first CD I could reach for, the summer day was beginning to be dusk and Bob Marley's "Buffalo Solider" started playing. I looked up and there was a sign "Buffalo Solider Memorial Next Right" I was pretty spooked. I though it would be the best time to paint this subject, I always wondered when I would...

I'm kind liking the work, those horse and riders look nice... But have you ever seen Conor Harrington's work? There are some similar elements maybe. Also, have you ever done any street art or graffiti before?

Finally! I was waiting for someone to point out Harrington... The KS (which is an abbreviation for Kansas) is a tribute to him. You know how many times around here I mentioned his name after showing this piece and they are like "who"? I want to punch Denver straight in the mouth for not knowing him.
Actually all these pieces I have been doing lately I have been, in a small way, "poking fun" at where I'm from. Nebraska. How strange to use old photos of cowboys, soldiers, rodeos, buffalo, things that embarrass contemporary artists from the Midwest/West and wouldn't touch. I proudly use them and fuck them up, using expressionistic tags, shapes, letters, fluid brush-strokes making these overused subjects interesting again. While other artist who are showing in Aspen use these subjects straight, for a easy quick sell.
I'm sick of hiding where I'm from, the West is the best. See all the great art coming out from the west coast.
As for street art, defacing Lincolns old market when I was a young artist probably doesn't qualify me as a street artist. I was doing that kind of shit because I was board, and angry being IN Lincoln. I wasn't following anything or anybody back then. I was just having fun, so no.

Thanks hellosir, Im thinking of taking a break and doing a series of a girlfriend of my, in my own way, should be rather interesting, it will be a nice break. I enjoy all of my previous series, but see if I can paint what is floating in my brain, and use what I have learned. We shall see! It will be called the "Sarah Series" I thought it would be interesting to show without deleting the previous Shield, painting showing some additions, part of the process, and I thought it would be fun to show.
