Had been waiting for this for a while and it didn't disappoint during it's premier last night. Think some folks on here might enjoy it, even if not in love with Kanye. Watch it for the insanely beautiful Selita Ebanks alone. In all, a unique and successful piece of art merging film and music www.mtv.com/videos/kanye-wests-runaway/1650620/playlist.jhtml

is it a peek at the whole album? nice... w/images to boot.
that runaway beat is insane... I just cringe a bit when I hear 'douchebags', 'a$$holes', 'send this girl a pic of my...', not because of the words, but because it takes a bit from seriousness of beats, but Kanye has always done that, I guess? merge something serious, with a little play in words, tongue in cheek stuff?

If you enjoyed it, it's worth watching the full interview afterwards to get some context. It's effectively an extended Runaway cut with bits and pieces of tracks from the second half of the album. I really think it's an impressive piece of work, despite the cinematography being derivative at points by his own admission even. But what shots and sequences by modern directors aren't pulled from their contemporaries. I'm big into film - and the vast majority of Kanye's music - so this right up my alley.
I hear ya on your critique of the Runaway hook. When it was first leaked, and upon first listen, I was absolutely floored by the Shinning-esque, Kubrikian piano riff. The beat is pure genius. And when that refrain first came into play, I was the WTF. But now that I've since listened to it around 100 times, and still haven't gotten tired of the beat, I couldn't imagine the track without it. There's a juxtaposed harmony between the emotional intensity of the music and the levity inherent in the ridiculousness of the lyrics. Interestingly, he publicly premiered the song for the first time live at the VMAs this year, which during last years awards was where he jumped on stage stealing the mic from Taylor Swift and had his public downfall, if only temporary. Many speculated, and to an extent he's confirmed in various interviews, that the hook is a direct rebuttal to all those that were up in arms about his actions, perhaps deservedly so, and incessantly beat him down. Pretty fitting and coincidental that he debuted it at the VMAs. Watching it live was priceless too, as they weren't able to edit any of the language.
