Welcome to the board. If he is some sort of artist then pictures of his pieces would be helpful Googling his name only gave me one of the Olsen twins so I gave up. I guess it's not his art that he is famous for.

I guess it's not his art that he is famous for. He's famous for his art. He's just more famous for hooking up with an Olsen. Lowman came from the Snow/McGinley/Colen crew and shows mostly appropriation art at fairly high end galleries.

He'll have work in OHWOW's summer group show out in LA late in June.

Why did his prices explode last year at the auctions? What happened? Don´t get it!

'Black Maxima Negative' shown above went for $164,500 all-inclusive today at Phillips.
Seems nice and strong to me.

Don´t get these prices for an artist like Lowman. What´s so exciting about his work? Just a hype?

I think he has quite a bit of hype priced in, yes. Lowman to me is still more potential than actual.
That being said, I much prefer him to contemporaries like Colen. I think Lowman actually has some interesting ideas, instead of just processes.
The Maccarone/Gavin Brown double-feature 'Trash Landing' left me feeling that Lowman was talented, bit still very much scattered and that he has a decent shot of maturing into something special. It also left me feeling that, regardless of whether he matures or not, 20 years from now there will be a retrospective on him hailing his 'visual vocabulary' and 'well-developed artistic language'. The curator will make every effort to show that Lowman had a master plan all along, clear-as-day. I will probably read the accompanying catalog and laugh out loud.

Nate still has a long way to go. He might be seen by some as yet to perform / a tad underwhelming. Undoubtedly though, he's in good hands with Michele Maccarone. She certainly puts in the work for her artists and thankfully avoids pretension in the process.

I got a chance to escape the seriously weird cold LA weather for a few days, and check out the Nate Lowman exhibit at the Brant Foundation today. Thanks to Mose for getting me linked in for the show, and Monica from Brant who gave an impressive tour, and was a great host. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to snap photos inside the exhibition, but I grabbed a few shots of the grounds and OJ Simpsons Bronco. The sculpture in the back ground is by Urs Fischer.

Stellan Holm Gallery had two, black/white bullet holes - a small one and a large one. His booth was at PAD. Bullet holes looked really great next to Warhol Mao and Flower canvases.
