Has anyone bought anything from Exhibition A? I'm thinking of buying a photographic work on paper but was wondering if anyone has any comments on the quality of their prints?

I believe Svenman posted in the Tim Barber thread that he was planning to purchase Untitled(Central Park) from them. Believe those were on canvas though so may differ from what you are looking at.

They are pretty good.
From my experience, their customer service, shipping, and packaging are top notch. In addition, I have found their in-house framing to be just fine as well. No complaints at all. Actually nothing but compliments.
That being said, their printing is not epic in quality. These are inkjets and not amazing ones at that. Some of the pieces I have received from them left me saying to myself, "Damn, I wish they had just screenprinted these." But, then I realize that would have probably doubled the price.
All-in-all, I don't see anything wrong with being able to add pieces from very interesting emerging and established artists for what are really quite cheap prices. There are trade-offs, but I've found them to be acceptable.

I say go for it...and then let me know how bad it is.
For the most part, I completely ignore their releases due to the canvas element. The occasional print on paper, such as the Lowman Paper Plane, has mildly interested me. But I have kept coming back to the Jack Siegel LAX piece and then today's release caught my eye. Just having a hard time stomaching the inkjet reproduction of a photo. Seems so wrong. At the same time. he didn't go c-print for Movie Magic at Cooper Union even and used same process last year. So that's something to consider.

i've got the jules de balicourt inkjet on canvas, and i like the image, but yeah.....it's pretty cheap in quality. but i don't think it's due to any fault of exhibition a. they're a lower cost edition company. just keep that in mind.

It's today's Jack Siegel that caught my eye. I dunno. It's obviously impossible to tell from online photographs but the Exhibition A version seems to lack the vibrancy of the originally exhibited version when you compare them side by side. I wouldn't touch the repros of paintings that they do, particularly not the canvas prints, but I have nothing against an inkjet photograph as long as the quality is good. But then I probably shouldn't set my expectations too high given the price.

heres my experience of exhibition a:
i'd love to be able to comment on the quality of the prints, but am unable to....
i ordered the tim barber piece mentioned above on 14th november as a christmas present for my wife. the site said (and still says) 'ships in 8 days'.
around the 16th of december i started to get a bit nervous, so i emailed exhibition a to find out the status of the order. i got no reply. i checked the website on order status and it stated 'order not yet shipped'. i panicked. i emailed them twice more asking them to send on a courier in time for xmas. i still got no reply.
i went and bought some jewellery for my wife instead. she got an xmas present at least.
reading this thread reminded me about the order. i checked the site again. status still states that the order has not shipped, nearly 2 months on.
i've still had no contact from them.
i'd say exhibition a suck at what they do, and if their idea of customer service is to ignore their customers, then fuck them.

Oh that sucks. I emailed them yesterday with some questions and haven't had a reply. If they can't answer those then I certainly won't be buying from them.

thanks for the detail sven.
+1 for the board
..i don't know about you - but that kind of story actually saves people here money - that in these times of tightness is to be applauded.

I just posted on their Facebook page Sven. Suggest you do the same and retell your story over there. Businesses tend to listen when you complain in public on their social properties.

I just posted on their Facebook page Sven. Suggest you do the same and retell your story over there. Businesses tend to listen when you complain in public on their social properties. whatever you posted is long gone from their facebook wall, so it seems that they at least noticed that. i wonder, did they give any response other than deleting your comments?

So they have. No response from them at all. Clearly they have no regard for their customers whatsoever.
Regardless, this forum is pretty Google friendly. They'll soon find this thread hitting the top of their search results and there's nothing they can do about that. You can only hide for so long from angry customers - not that I'm angry, I just want a response to my emails, but Sven clearly has very good reason to be.

Businesses tend to listen when you complain in public I have to agree with this.. it happened to me few times that personal contact just wasn't enough to get things done, and "airing dirty laundry" would usually get them solved in NO time.. sad some people/companies work that way.. good luck Sven!

Well, for what it's worth I got a response. The fact that it's printed on textured paper is a no no for me. And the large version, which is 48x32 inches, has a 1 inch white border which feels like it will be completely off balance. Easy pass.
Why do they print photographic works on canvas or textured paper? I don't get it. I understand this approach for a repro of a painting but for a photograph?

i've had a reply from them too. to be fair, they've given me a full refund immediately, and i've also had a further email stating that they have sent the piece on and i can keep it with their compliments.
i take back what i said about being responsive to customer services issues. props to exhibition a from me on this occasion.

Fair play to them. That's a good result and generous resolution even if it took a while.

just to update this thread with some further commentary on this issue of quality. my tim barber print arrived today. right up close, you can see some hazing / grain in the reproduction. a certain amount of this may well be within the original photograph - i have no comparison. 8 inches or more away and the quality is crisp and clear. sure you can see the grain of the canvas, although it is fairly light in weave, but i expected that anyway... overall, for what this is i think the quality is very good - and i'm not just saying that because i ended up getting the print for the price of the import duty.

I also had a terrible experience with exhibition A - endless emails with no reply, and then i got a reply from a manager explaining that the staff member i had been emailing was sacked for incompetency.... all in all very dodgy and doubt i would order from them again.

Today's Aurel Schmidt release was yet another shambles. I spent an hour trying to check out and it just kept saying there was an invalid string in my billing postcode.
They replied to my email after it sold out to let me know that the website doesn't accept international orders yet and won't do for a few more weeks. Apart from this being bullshit as others have ordered from abroad in the past, I was able to use my address and postcode for the shipping info and I was able to select international shipping options.
Clearly Exhibition A either expects its customers to be psychic or thinks we enjoy spending hours trying get through a check out that has no chance of working.
Either way, I'm done with them. Life's too short to deal with these amateurs.

i had the same experience with the checkout today. pretty frustrating. it has indeed worked in the past for uk delivery, so not sure why this happened today.

Sorry to hear that guys.
I bought the Richard prince print from them. Took 8 weeks ish to arrive. Mine arrived ok but my friends was damaged. Not sure how that has resolved.
I'm a stickler for quality and I must say the paper used and the quality of printing is not great.
