I'd like to tap into the board's collective wisdom on the topic of the bay area arts scene. Having just moved up from LA i'm trying to get a feel for the lay of the land here and was wondering which galleries, etc other board members like. I'm familiar with Parklife (which I enjoyed browsing around the other day) but otherwise I must admit to being somewhat rudderless here. Would greatly appreciate any tips you might have to share.

I'm not too familiar, but I would start with SFMOMA. Although San Francisco tried its best to have it go elsewhere, the massive and important Fischer Collection(GAP founder) did end up at the museum.
Right now, Cindy Sherman's retrospective is showing as is work by Parra(a name I am not too familiar with but that I've seen on forums).

Although San Francisco tried its best to have it go elsewhere........... not exactly the story. s.f. didn't give a green light for a dedicated art museum to be built specifically for the collection. in sf, try these galleries... not sure your art tastes, but this is a good list.. ratio3 park life steven wolf eli ridgway guerrero gallery eleanor harwood john berggruen white walls the shooting gallery needles and pens fecal dot gallery mollusk many galleries in the 49 geary building as well as the 77 geary building sfmoma jewish contemporary museum yerba buena center for the arts (they have a good d. shrigley show) the de young legion of honor good luck, and have fun!!

Justin Giarla is the owner of White Walls/Shooting Gallery. He has also recently opened 941 Geary. They are all great galleries and within a few blocks of each other.

Check out the fecalface calendar for posted shows. and check out Clarion Alley in the Mission District for mural alley. Have fun!
