I'm trying to ship framed artwork, worth roughly $600 from the US to the UK.
UPS and FedEx both want $200-300, which seems too expensive, considering it's half the price of the art.
USPS Priority International is $60 but they don't offer insurance for this shipping method anymore.
Any suggestions? I have it packaged very well, but you never know what could happen. Should I risk shipping it without insurance?

I'd also suggest shipping with USPS. If you pack the item really well you should be fine. I have had artwork for $600-$900 shipped through USPS priority mail international several times, and nothing has arrived damaged. Although I was always under the impression that my parcels were insured for the declared value. Is it different for each country?

Thanks, I'll check out the options and consider USPS as well.

I'd recommended shipping through FedEx. I tried going through USPS because it was suppose to be cheaper but the hassle of trying to go through their website plus ordering the custom forms (which can no longer be printed off their site for whatever reason) just wasn’t work it.
The FedEx customs & international shipping forms were easy to fill out and the people I dealt with at the FedEx Express actually knew what they were talking about.
My local USPS had no idea what exactly was required to ship internationally. I ended up calling the USPS helpline and got some answers which didn't match their website. When I finally went to ship the artwork to the UK I discovered through their system that USPS will not ship commercial or fine art to the UK. I don't know about other parts of the world but I'll never attempt or trust USPS to handle anything of value again.
Paid approx $280 for the FedEx shipping which the buyer agreed on and he received the piece in 2 days.

If you ship through USPS "Express" Mail you can insure for up to $650 and you'll have tracking with delivery confirmation.
