oh my. the piece on the showcard is just beautiful. interesting that it looks beautiful but it looks like those little animals are stranded and a tsunami has washed away their homes?

Coincidence maybe...?
I really hope that's not the image that she was trying to portray... at least that's not the impression I get from her personality. Then again maybe she's starting to reflect some political views on her mind...

I think the swan and girl might be the rescuers on closer inspection. Is that basket in swan's mouth to take the animals out of harm's way?

These are some of the first Sol's I've seen that I've really liked in a long time. I'm quite eager to see what else she came up with for this show.

I love earth and sepia tones as much as the next guy or gal. But has she ever spiced up any of her pieces - at least recent ones - with any bolder colors? In looking at all her last 20 prints on her webiste, they all look to be based on the exact same color palette, with very minor variations here and there. It's nice and is certainly a component of her trademarked style. But do true fans think they look flat and redundant when the body of work is viewed collectively and ever wish she'd mix it up a bit color-wise? Just wondering, as this is merely a comment from a casual observer of her work. Thoughts?

I think it is quite elegant actually. If the chroma were jacked up too much for the sake of pushing "bolder colors", . . . i'm not so sure it would make her work better. It's up to her really, . . . Her voice is unique and charming the way it is.

i can see low's point - especially if you're not moved by her work in the slightest. her paintings have always been so soothing for me and the colors are an enormous part of that. There's a harmony between her subject matter and the colors she uses to bring them to life and i agree with travis, i don't necessarily think amping up the color would be an improvement. the ephemeral quality might be lost. below however is a brief comparison of how her use of colors has changed: this is my first Amy and despite the scans you may see of the piece, they are significantly lighter and almost faded by comparison: and here is a more recent piece - either early this year or late last - the colors are definitely richer here:

I think the palette that she uses is part of what makes her work special. Feels like it's a dream. It has a very calming effect for me...

Amy Sol & another favorite of mine Eyvind Earle are both very calming/soothing. Both artist bring down my blood pressure. Visual Valium

Ha. I love it! And quite true. Her work is tranquilizing. An optic opiate, if you will. Ha. I appreciate the responses. It is absolutely her prerogative what she paints and how she does it. That's obvious. Just trying to spark some healthy discussion among collectors..for which she has garnered many of over the past couple years. I'm a fair weather fan with her work I think, as there have been pieces that have absolutely floored me. But as of late, I've found them a little monotonous in composition and palette. But again, that's certainly how she rolls.

Marcus posted a short interview he did with Amy here about the show. Here's an excerpt: “in these scenes there is a lot of water and unpredictability.. alot of popping and flowing and semi-destruction. but it’s never a bad destruction because things always grow back. just like in a dream, you eventually wake up.. and when things die, things grow back. i think that’s what this one’s about.” I like this one. Look at the little santa being blown out of the chimney with his gifts lol.

Hi this is Dylan(first post on the artchival boards :-)
I just received a reply from the gallery:
The gallery informed me that they are putting the artwork available for purchase on their site tomorrow. They also said that they usually put the current exhibition on their website after the opening.
