I wasn't a huge Ruby fan until really spending quality time with a HUGE sp painting at Andrea Rosen a few months back. Then, the show at Nahmad Contemporary was just mind-blowing. I mean, I was fully aware of his work but just hadn't spent the quality time to really dive into it at any level. for any interested: artobserved.com/2013/06/new-york-sterling-ruby-sp-paintings-at-nahmad-contemporary-through-june-10th-2013/His output is just so varied, so all-over and all-encompassing, it is just hard to really grip him as an artist beyond simply saying something like 'The Great'. I don't know where he is going, but I'll sure as hell follow because it'll be interesting at the least.

So bummed I missed the show at Nahmad! Those SP paintings are really something special. Why I didn't take the time to go uptown and see an obviously incredible show by my favorite artist of the last two decades? Foolish, foolish, foolish..
