Hi everyone,
Please accept my apologies if I'm wasting forum space with this, seeing as I posted a thread yesterday too. It may seem like a massive change between my last post and this, but htings have finally hit a wall.
The current credit crunch here in the UK and in the US has hit everyone hard, us included. The first thing the majority of galleries and art business' cut back on is advertising, which is our only avenue of generating income, and sadly, it means that with no income coming in, we can’t afford to pay the printers. When we can’t afford to pay the printers, we obviously can’t afford to continue.
The rotten thing about it is that we had the new distribution deal in place, and were ready to hit every Barnes and Noble and Borders store in the US and UK, as well as countless smaller independent outlets in the UK, US, and beyond, but with no money to cover the printing, it simply can’t happen.
To everyone that contributed, helped, supported, and bought Dangerous Ink; I want to say a huge “thank-you” for everything that you’ve done, and for making the past 4 issues a fantastic experience for myself, and, I hope, for everyone that took part in each magazine.
Goodbye, and all the best for the future.
Tom

YEah, this really sux, Not just because I was to be in the Jan issue, but that a good magazine is not going to be there to read anymore. I am so sorry Tom and maybe down the road you can get another chance to relaunch Dangerous Ink.

That's sad news. I hope you can figure out a way to get it back together again. Good luck!

Hi,
Cheers everyone for the kind words. The worst part is really that things are ready to roll out of the printers and in to the stores.
I'd like to say that we could be back sometime in the near future, but sadly distributors have long memories, and don't care for magas that stop and start;once we're gone, we're gone for good, which is an idea I absolutely deplore.
I'm still working my arse off trying to get the issue out and speaking to advertisers old and new, but most people want ridiculous discounts (one well-known gallery asked for a 75% discount on one ad!). As a non-profit mag, the ad prices pay for printing and nothing else. I publish, edit, write, web design, graphic design, promote, book-keep for the mag, and I've never made a penny out of it. I'm not trying to make myself out to be a martyr here; everything I do is to promote the art and artists that I love and who I think deserve more recognition.
Heiko: I'm glad you like the issue. If only you were a gallery owner! Just our of curiosity, what did you like about it?
Cheers,
Tom

I didn't find the time to read it yet, but I really like the layout, typography and the high printing quality. I'm looking forward to read about my favorite artists also because they are very well presented in the magazine. I also like the mix of comic and art. You have very good taste, Tom. I hope you'll publish #5 one day soon.

Thanks for the encouragement. I was suprised how pivotal something like typography was in a magazines layout (thank heavens for the new Helvetica library). The good thing about not being a commerical mag is that we can promote whichever artists we like, as much as we like, and give them the lush layouts they deserve.
I'm speaking to a potential investor next week, so there's a good chance we'll hit the shelves on time. It'd be a damn shame to fold now with the amount of work we already have. I've got interviews with Leslie Ditto, John M. Burns, David MacDowell, Jess Joslin, Jared Joslin, and Ernie Hudson already done, with loads of gallery spots filled too. I've got an interview lined up with actor Lance Henriksen too. He actually produces some beautiful pottery, which is why we're interviewing him.
Cheers!

I hope all works out for you Tom. Not just because I am being featured in the Jan issue, but just because I believe in what you are doing and it's a beautiful magazine. I will continue to do what I can to support you.

Tom Well Tom has told me that Dangerous Ink is still alive and kickin, the investor that he met with loved the magazine and is in and they are going to be printing the Jan issue soon and they have pretty big plans for next year too, so Congrats Tom.

Cheers for that Leslie. Yup, we're back in business and shooting for our January release which will be no problem at all.
We've been partly bought over by another publishing company, but don't worry, I've retained full editorial control for the next 12 months, so content will stay exactly as fresh and insightful as it is now.
There will have to be a few small changes to intigrate us in to the new publishers way o doing certain things, but this will only affect the advertising, so readers, artists, writers, animators etc. won't see a single change.
If any artists on here fancied an interview or gallery spot in Dangerous Ink, please feel free to email me and let's see if we can work something out.
All the best!
Tom

good arrows mate so where can i get said publication? haha - haven't heard that saying for a while. i'll be no doubt using that for a few days now glad to hear that things are moving in a positive direction for dangerous ink tom! i'll be looking out for the new issue when it hits the shops. i have no affiliation to the magazine or tom, but here is a plea for artchival members - lets show some support for a fellow member / contributor and all buy up a copy of the current and future issues.

Cheers for all the words of support! And thanks to Droow for buying a copy as well (it'll be posted off tomorrow, first class).
It does feel good to know that the mag will be continuing for at least another 12 months; knowing that we can showcase new artists and illustrators in each issue give me one hell of a good feeling.
The next issue will be available from mid-January in the States, and a little earlier in the UK. We'll have it in the Dangerous Ink shop for preorder in the next week or 2 anyway, for folk that want to get in early.
If there's anyting in particular anyone would like to see us cover, please feel free to give me a shout; I don't bite. It's all about the art and culture for me, so if readers think something in particular would be good reading; I'm always up for it.
All the best,
Tom

Hi Everyone,
Just one last update before I get back to the relaunch. Since we're back from the brink through a part-ownership deal with another publisher, I now have the opportunity to give Dangerous Ink the relaunch it deserves.
Through our new partners, we've managed to get issue 1 circulation up to a whopping 64,000, with the bulk of that being in the U.S. That's around 1/3rd of what Jux do, so you can get a feeling of how great things are going for us.
A big thanks to everyone thats supported us, and Leslie - our fantastic relaunch cover artist!
All the best!
Tom
